So many questions . . .

So about 2 weeks ago I had what at first felt like an ingrown hair, but it got really big and was kind of hard. That went away in a week, but another one appeared. So I went to the gyno and got tested. Today I got a call at work and the nurse told me that the herpes blood test came back kind of positive - meaning I have to go back in a month to make sure . . . I know I'm susceptible to the herpes that causes chickenpox since I had shingles when I was only 17 . . . is there any possibility that this is what's showing up, and would this cause the bumps around my genitals? Also, I had a rash on the bottom of my feet for two days, and have been struggling with a viral infection of my eyes, although my eye doctor told me it wasn't herpes related because it was in both eyes. Could these all be related? I was devastated when I heard . . . so many of my friends are irresponsible in their sex lives - I'm always careful and use protection, yet I got the STD and they didn't. I don't know who to tell.

If it is herpes, what kind of activities should I stay away from during an outbreak? I'm an avid rock climber and swimmer . . . is it ok to get in the pool? My blister isn't open or anything. . . any advice please???

I'm not sure I have a lot of answers, but I do have a question. You said you have a rash on the bottom of your feet. What does it feel like? Are they sore/tender like you've walked around all day? A lot of bumps? Any bumps? I have the same thing- about 5 days after my initial bo.

I had shingles in college and when I first started feeling bad (which took me to the doctor and I got the subsequent diagnosis of H), I told my friend.. I feel as awful as I did when I had shingles. I knew that they were related (both attacking nerve endings), but I didn't know that one could make you more susceptable to the other.

Our stories sound pretty similar. I haven't gotten my test results back yet- probably early next week, but the doc didn't seem to have any doubt about what it was. I've only had one sore that seems to be going away pretty quickly, but was confused when my feet started hurting so bad yesterday. Then I woke up this morning with an almost flat, barely red bump that hurts like mad when I walk.

Sorry I don't have a lot of answers-- really new to this thing myself. I can tell you, I've gotten so much relief from reading this message board. If you don't have anyone to talk to, I think you'll find some answers or at least a place to vent by being here.

Take Care

Did the doctor tell you that it can make you more susceptible? I don't have any idea, it was just a connection I made between the two . . . the rashes itched a lot, but didn't make my feet sore per se. The rash kind of extended onto the sides of my feet, and I had a few dots there, but no bumps. It stung when I was in the shower, but went away a day later, so I didn't think that much of it. Have you told anyone about getting the test? I'm no longer dating the guy who I'm sure gave it to me (he's the only relationship I had in the past year), and I don't feel like I can tell anyone else.

Unfortunately, my doctor didn't tell me sh*t! When I asked about the raw spot, she just said "yeah, that looks like herpes.. we'll culture it, but I'm sure that's what it is". I swear she spent more time chastising me about having unprotected sex than she did educating me on the condition. She made me feel like I was 8 instead of 38. She didn't mention anything about shingles being related or making you more susecptable. I've tried looking it up, but find more about how to distinguish between the two. All I know is that the symptoms feel pretty similar (at least they did for me) and they both attack nerve endings.

My feet are feeling a lot better today and our rashes sound completely different, so maybe it's just a coincidence. The bottoms of my feet felt tender to the touch and I had only one spot- it felt and looked like I had a splinter or something in it. Because they itched so much, I scratched open the blister-like clusters on my butt cheek and it's almost gone. My best friend looked at it yesterday and said it looked more like eczema.

I've only told 3 people.. my best friend, current boyfriend, and a really close friend that has had h for years. I've found that it's a fine line about how much I talk about it because I'm sure my best friend is just tired of hearing it, my boyfriend is scared because he hasn't been tested yet, and I'm sure it brings back a lot of bad memories for the friend that has it. So I still feel kind of alone at times and have found a lot of comfort in this message board. I've found it very difficult being at work because it's obvious that I feel horrible. Everyone keeps making suggestions and giving theories, and all I can think is.. "if they only knew..." I finally just said "they're still running a bunch of tests to see if they can figure it out, so I'll have to deal with it until then."

Now that I'm physically feeling better, my next hurdle is the relationship with my boyfriend. He's been incredibly supportive and I believe it's brought us closer... SO FAR. Because of what the doctor said and what I've read, he's convinced that he gave it to me even though he's never had any symptoms. We're still trying to find a place for him to get tested. I'm not real secure in knowing that he'll stay if it turns out he doesn't have it. We've only been together for a few months and haven't even used the "love" word yet, so I guess we'll have to see.

Take care of yourself and enjoy your weekend!

To give some context I hve been suffering with this for the last 6/7 years this came about after I had varicella zoster on the inside of my body a week after I started getting clusters of spots on the top of my buttock they are not painful as such can be itchy at times but majority of the time I don’t feel it when I have an outbreak. I’ve been to various doctors who say it’s a fungal skin infection or a bacterial skin infection. I’ve asked if it’s herpes but they will say it’s not without even testing it.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us
