New here- my 'story'-new weird symptoms- could they be related to Herpes?

   HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I was recently diagnosed with HSV II, however I have believed I have had herpes for the past 15 or so years. I have never really had a horrible first outbreak that I am aware off- I do remember one time in college when I was horribly sick for a week or two- but no outbreak that I can remember. When I do get an OB it is in my anal area- I thought I had hemorrhoids.

I do know in my 'gut' who gave my herpes, my 'sex' partner in college. A friend of mine back in college called me one day and said that my 'sex' partner- who was very promiscuous, had given herpes to another gal and he wanted me to be aware of that. I think that I have a lot of anger inside because I think this guy new what he had but didn't care and I am ashamed..... I almost feel dirty.

I have always been afraid of giving Herpes to my husband to the point that I don't even want to have sex anymore.... and if I do, I want to put a towel down so the sheets don't get dirty and have the virus on the sheets. I am paranoid. I also have a 2 1/2 year old son- and I am paranoid about him using the toilet, touching any dirty clothes..... Any thoughts on dealing with this? Another question, it my OB are usually in my anal area- does that mean that they are not in my vaginal area or could it still be?

So... normally my OB's symptoms are enlarged sore- lymph node in my groin, a sore throat, tight chest, runny nose, tired, headache and aching all over- then a my itchy haemoid appears and I start to feel better. I would often get them at the end of my menstrual cycle however since June of last year- I have had some weird symptoms and was wondering if they are related to herpes because the doctors can't find anything else wrong with me.

Basically in June and July- at the end of my menses- my legs shook uncontrollably, I lost a total of 14lbs which brought to a weight that was less then I weighed in high school and then I would be in this COMPLETE fog, extreme fatigue and almost daze for a few days. I would be weepy and cry at the drop of a hat, my memory was awful and it was so hard to concentrate- and then just as fast as that feeling came- it would leave. I would find my head becoming clearer and then I felt 'normal' again. I would feel that feeling 'lifting' and ahhh..... relief.

They did find out in the beginning of August that I had a UTI (which I had never had before)- I think that I actually had it for quite some time- but that is beside the point. Gained some of my weight back and felt a little better.

September- that weepy, tired, extreme fatigue, can't think feeling came over me and again- it cleared just as fast as it came. And I had my 'itchy hemorrhoid' back again....

October- November- no symptoms.... In December, my legs started to shake horribly again- my pulse increased into the 85 beats per minute and stayed elevated like that for several hours- usually my resting heart rate is in the 65 range- during this time I couldn't walk up flights of stairs without being totally out of breath. Lost 5 lbs again like a snap of a finger and then that foggy feeling, extreme fatigue, felt like it took everything to keep going and felt very stressed about things that I had to do because I didn't have the energy to do them. I was overwhelmed very easily. No lesion- however at the end of this feeling- I had a pain in my left leg, buttocks and into my left side of my vagina- that ached and was very sensitive to cold.

At the end of my menses, In January, extreme fatigue, foggy head, almost confused feeling- hard to concentrate and think- my pulse increased one morning- the 80's again and out of breath walking up the stairs- not as severe as in December. I was horribly bloated, felt like I had to pee but couldn't, had a discharge....I woke up in the middle of the night when I was having this 'spell' and I said to myself... I think this is my herpes causing this.... could it be?

I went to the doctor today and they said that they have no idea what is wrong with me- she said it was a long shot that it was the herpes causing it but not to rule it out.

So I am just holding on for the end of my menses this month.... could all fo these weird symptoms be caused my the herpes virus? If so, why on earth has it reared it's ugly head in this manor and how can I get it under control again? I do have an extreme amount of stress in my life- could this be the herpes causing these weird spells at the end of my menses? If so, why I am having so many and what could I do about it. I would prefer any natural remedies because I am not big on prescription drugs.....

ANY THOUGHTS.... INSIGHTS would be so greatly appreciated.... thanks for listening..... I just want to be free and me again! I hate herpes!!!! I HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT!!!!!

were you takinf antiviral meds at the time of your previous symptoms? a lot of what you wrote is similar to ways I felt when I tried valtrex. I also do believe the virus could be the cause of many, if not all of those symptoms.....I have only had this a year and a half but have had almost continuos outbreaks for this WHOLE time.....no sores, or blisters....a rash in the pubic hair region above vagina and always cut like feelings around my anus,.....often times with nothing visible there or a tiny dot of a cut there. I also get really swollen glands and lymph nodes always, extreme fatigue, and a weird feeling....also very very depressed .....anyhow, recently, along with the glands, had a few of the bizzare symptoms you mentioned but also woke up one morning with the most painful stiff neck I have ever experienced.....could not move....never experienced anything like it in my life.....debilitating...could not move, shower, anything! had to go to hospital....i had a feeling it was the virus. I was also having a lot of the invisible cut like feelings around the anus, swollen glands, but it was insane....no explanation whatsoever .....I just had a gut feeling in my heart it was the virus.....i was so sure that I looked up herpes virus and neck stiffness and found out that there is herpes related meningitis which gives similar symptoms as I had....the most relavent being the severe stiff neck. however, the meningitis related to herpes it said was not fatal, does not cause a fever, would subside on its own in 5-8 days if that is what it was and the ER doc, aside from treating my like I was a leper as soon as I mentioned my HSV statu, told me I was being crazy and paranoid .........thats when I went home and found all the info on the form of meningitis related to herpes and just almost know it was the virus acting up. I also during the time when the neck thing happened was feeling severe tingling, a warming feeling in the lower right part of my back, above my butt.....near my side and when i would feel it, I would touch the area where I felt it and it would be very hot, like I had a warm pack on it or something.....so I know that was the virus behaving very strangely at the time as well. so yea, most docs. dont know about things like this and I think they may not be so quick to link the 2 but some docs. will agree it is very likely the virus.

thanks for the reply. Ok... I have never taken antiviral med's- I don't like taking medication very much, however can you have meningitis without having a fever- I had the stiff neck, headache on and off, body aches, and extreme fatigue- but no fever? And my next question is if the herpes is causing this viral meningitis- can my family catch it- my son and husband? I don't want anything to happen to either of them.....

I only took valtrex for 8 days and was so physically sick I had to stop it immediately after that week. I also hate to take synthetic drugs and avoid them at all cost.

Anyhow, found some info on what I mentioned in my previous post to you. There is a website explaining one particular case. Also, I dont believe it would be contagious, as it is due to the herpes reacting a particular way in your own body. heres the link about that one case

yes, a fever can be present with this type...it is called Mollaret's meningitis and like I said above is not fatal. there is info out there about it but not in abundance.

here's another case:http://www.jabfm.org/cgi/content/full/17/4/303

it is interesting if nothing else and I thought maybe it might help you if you have also experienced these similar symptoms...maybe something you could ask a doctor who was familiar with herpes so they might know some info...but most docs dont know a lot about herpes in general from the ones Ive encountered.

It is funny that you all are experiencing these symptoms. I too have experienced some of the same symptoms that you all are experiencing. It is really, really, really frustrating because the doctors look at you like you are crazy when you tell them about what you are feeling. There are many symptoms that I am feeling that I am almost positive that it is related to the herpes virus. I never felt these symptoms until I was diagnosed with this virus.

I was diagnosed with hsv2 two days before Thanksgiving (November 2006). It seems that I have had continuous outbreaks since then. I do not get painful lesions, but I do get small bumps and a rash sometimes. I also get that feeling like I have cuts in my genitals, but I do not see anything when I look down there. I get that hemorrhoid feeling in my anus and sometimes I feel really irritated too. I have this strange burning sensation in the base of my head and tingling sensations in my arms that come and go. I am going to get other tests done, but I truly believe that my symptoms are directly related to herpes because I did not feel these symptoms until I was diagnosed with herpes. If I had to look for a positive side to this, I would say that even though I am experiencing symptoms continuously, I am truly glad that I am not getting the symptoms that I first experienced during my initial ob. I had extreme pain in my back, legs, hips, knees, groin, pressure in my genitals, it was hard for me to urinate, I had a fever, and I just basically felt really bad (not to mention the mental toll I had when I was told that I had this virus). I cried all day, each day, but now I must say that it has gotten better for me and I know that it will get better for each of us as the days pass and we come to terms with this virus. I feel by me educating myself as well as being a member of this forum, it has helped me to accept this virus better. I am still trying to get a hold of it, but I must say that it could be worse.

P.S. To Want2befree,

Does your legs feel like they are going to give out when you stand? I have experienced my legs feeling heavy and shaky at times. I am very grateful to this forum and the people on here because if it was not for the support on here, I would have gone crazy by now.

Just thought I would give some input. I don't know if it's because I've had GH for almost 11 years but I promise as time goes by the symptoms lessen. The worse part for me is the awful aching that runs from my right leg to my vaginal area. It feels like every nerve in my leg is screaming. I suppose that is the trade off for having lesions that do not hurt. As far as fatigue goes, I don't recall ever experiencing any.

Support1,

Yes at times my legs feel very heavy and shaky- like they want to give out- not all the time- but when I am not feeling well. That is weird. I have actually had HSV2 probably for 14 years or so... however just recently diagnosed via the culture. My symptoms have been horrible since this past summer- but again, my life has been extremely stressful- so I attribute my symtoms/ob's to this. I am trying to make time for myself and learn to relax, get massages, take my vitamins, eat healthy and exercise and hopefully this will help the virus migrate back into my system and never show up again!

Best of luck and thanks for the reply!

My legs never feel shakey, but they feel so tired. When i move them they feeel so heavy...very annoying feeling. My arms feel the same way. I also get extreme fatigue. Its like i dont even want to move them. I hate herpes.....I wish it wasn't in me.......but oh well think of it as a simple skin rash...yeah right...a skin rash with all kinds of other symptoms

They won't catch it from sharing towels, toilet seats, and bed sheets from you. Although you might want to avoid taking baths with your son together, I've read that it might be transmittable like that. Mostly likely your husband already has it, unless you've been using protection except for the one time you conceived your child. You could have him take a type-specific Herpes blood test just to make sure.

Sorry, I can't answer any of the other questions, not enough knowledge.

Best,

hopingseeking

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.

May 13 ( day I will never forget).. a guy I was dating and I drank way to much and decided to have anal sex. We did use protection however, not enough lube, wasn’t done correctly and it was painful. So bad that I yelled out and fell off the bed. Anyway, oral was also performed on me anal and vaginal. Flash forward to 3-4 days after that. I was in the most intense pain I had ever felt. I went to a gyn she tool one look and said it looks like herpes. She swabbed me . 2 days after that, yes it’s HSV1 . I was still in pain, irritated anal area and vaginal area and It was unbearable.  today, I still have irritation and itchy and when I pass a bowel i’m in pain and the itch is crazy.     When I first was diagnoses the gyn gave me valtrex which I did not take bc I was in so much pain I could not move for 2 days.  Groin lymphs were swollen I had fever , tired etc.  I am wondering if I had taken the valtrex would it have kinda liked stopped the virus in it’s tracks enough to reproduce? Do people see a correlation between no more outbreaks and immediate initial valtrex  use ? I am 43, I never thought this wound happen as I am not a promiscuous person, I hardly date and I always use protection when I do have intercouse , have yearly std tests. I’m just so sad that i’m at this point right now . I’m trying not to get depressed but this is making my body feel miserable. I’m an avid runner and biker and mom of two teens. I feel like my life as I knew is over. I want to feel better already.
