New to this too

I am new to herpies and this site. I can't seem to figure out how to start a new thread either. Just want to say hi and learn from other people who have this stupid virus. I am 51 years old and this is still a big shock to me. Don't know where I got it since the guy I am dating tested negative.

I'm totally new to all of this and i'm in need of a little support. A few days ago i made an appointment to see the doctors cos it was hurting to wee. Because i thought it was just a urine infection i wasn't worried, but thats when i found out my boyfriend of nearly 5months had infected me with herpes. I dunno if i'm more angry or upset at him, because not only didn't he tell me he had it before i slept with him, but now he's not giving me any support. I feel like my whole world has fallen apart, like i'm dirty and discusting !! Please any advice or personal experiences would be a great help !!

Much Love

Has the boyfriend admitted that he knew he had herpes beforehand?

It is estimated that over 70% of those who have herpes do not know it, because they have mild or no symptoms.

You are neither dirty nor disgusting. You simply have become host to a virus that many, many other humans have.

Try reading the links on the right side of this page. They will give you the facts and hopefully a bit of peace of mind. You might start with the links under the heading Life and Love.

Take care... :wavey:

Did they do a type test when you were diagnosed? Do you know if you have HSV1 or HSV2?

So many people have oral HSV1, and a lot of them don't think of it as herpes. Also, many folks have no idea that oral herpes can be transferred to the genital area by way of oral sex.

I wonder if your bf was like that.

I'm waiting for the results back for what type it is. Just a quick question, if either me or my boyfriend feel an OB coming on, can we cause the other to break out ?? And can we cause an OB on other parts of our bodies ?? Please message back soon

Hi FlowerPower ---

Having sexual activity is a known trigger for outbreaks. That's because of the friction involved --- it can cause a bit of minor trauma to the skin.

It has nothing to do with whether or not the other person is having an outbreak at the time. If you both already have herpes, that is not at issue.

Of course, if only one of you has herpes, you should avoid any sexual contact while that person is having an outbreak. This includes the time period known as prodrome, when that person is feeling symptoms that signal an outbreak is coming on.

(Personally, I can't imagine having sex during an outbreak...)

It is possible to transfer herpes to other parts of the body by touching a lesion and then touching another part of the body without washing your hands. It is called auto-inoculation. That is more likely during the very first outbreak, but is possible during recurrences as well. So use good hand washing practices.

You can ask all the questions here that you need to --- that's why this forum exists! :D

Unfortunately, nobody can answer this question with any degree of certainty. Everyone has a different experience with herpes, it seems. The "typical" course of a primary outbreak is from 1 to 2 weeks in length, but I've heard folks talk about them lasting as long as a couple of months.

Sorry we can't tell you how yours will go. Hope it is over soon!

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. @WilsoInAus could you kindly have a look :) also how long does it typically take for herpes blisters to develop into sores

Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us

To give everyone confidence that it wasn’t herpes related and conclude as the doctor did that it was a dermatitis issue to refer back to the dermatologist to continue with investigations.
