Diagnosed yesterday, please help! need answers!

Recommended Posts

I was diagnosed yesterday with genital herpes. It sounds weird and I guess I'm still in shock. Finally I found a man worth getting intimate with and this is what happens. I started noticing itching last week and starting turning into the WORST pain! I got one large bump that obviously broke a few days ago, and spread, now I have 1 large one, and many small ones. It has been very painful. I am on Valtrex and the Dr. gave me Lidocane, which helps but only for an hour or so. Taking a lot of Advil!!

I guess my question here is....WHEN ARE THE SORES GOING TO GO AWAY?? It is really affecting my life, it hurts to sit, walk, etc. Im trying not to wear anything tight fitting. It hurts to urinate, only since the sore broke and now it is open. I've been freaking out and need some help!!

I appreciate any advice or help or suggestions on how to deal with this!!

first, relax. they will go away, and everything will look normal again. it does take some time though, give it a few weeks, my first ob lasted a month (now that was some bullshit)

like u said try to keep the clothing lose, if u can dont wear any (like at home/ sleeping etc..) if u dont have to walk, dont.

for peeing> oh i know... the only thing i found helpfull was to pee in a bathtub.

fill it up w/ warm water, sit, strech ur legs as far as u can, and go.. it is prob the 1 thing that kept me from going insane.

tips, try and take a few baths if u could, add some epsom salt, or oatmeal bath, to help calm u down/ clean up etc..

keep on those meds, it takes a few days for them to really kick in, so dont stop them cause u see no improvment.

and its ok, if that guy wants to be with u, for who u are- he will accept all of u (herpes included) then u know u found a good one.

I know how you feel. I was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago and the guy who gave it to me is the first guy I've liked in a long time. It's really difficult. I keep hearing it's not the end of the world, I really believe that too, but it's hard when you see yourself in such a state. Yes, it's not cancer or life threatening but it can be devastating to one's moral about her body!

Your symptoms should subside within the first week or 2 of taking your meds. I'm going on 16 days on Valtrex and I've still got one or 2 little stubborn bumps that just won't go away. From what I understand the first outbreak is always the worst. And yes, keep the area clean and dry as much as possible. I went out and bought bigger white cotton undies just for my outbreak. It was really uncomfortable but it helps not to focus so much on it. I know it's hard not to. I am obsessive/compulsive so it was a big challenge for me.

As for the emotional factor, I don't know what to tell you. I'm still really upset about all of this and cry at the drop of a hat. I'm considering seeking some therapy about this myself. The best thing for you to do is get informed as much as possible about it so you know what to do moving forward. Knowledge is power. You have it, now it's time to deal with it. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but it's the only choice we have, isn't it?

Hiya! I just found out yesterday my confirmed HVS-2 diagnosis. I had sores for about a week and all the pains- hurt to walk, pee...everything. I had about 4-5 sores (it was my first outbreak) and I got Valtrex last week Sunday. As of yesterday, my sores are all gone and I am feeling much better. My partner is still in denial and he doesn't think there is anyway it could be from him... he did get tested and gets his results on Monday. Hang in there! I can now deal with the fact that I will always have it but with the out breaks it was a constant reminder. Now that it has cleared up I am able to move on and deal with it a lot better.

for the pee thing...you can do a "sitz bath" where you get a little water bottle, fill it with warm water, then while peeing, squirt the water on your vagina at the same time. it takes some of the sting out of peeing, plus it is nice and clean feeling. This is what docs have you do after you have a baby, to soothe the perenium (sp?) region...especially if there is tearing or an episiotomy. But believe me, it helps.

Also try to stay calm, and relax. Tough I know, but it will help in the long run. Stress can totally aggravate and perpetuate the outbreak. Bulk up on some vitamin C, and Vitamin b. C is good for your immune system and the virus seems to HATE it....and b is good for your central nervous system and maybe a pro-active way to hinder future outbreaks. Lysine is another vitamin to look into. With all, do in moderation and be careful.

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.
