Hello everyone i am a 32 yr old single mom of 2 from NY. I was diagnosed august 11th of 2010 with herpes. I contracted it by my sons father cheating. It does get easier I feel less like a leper now and feel people are uneducated. I am 9 months out break free yhea :)

I absolutely agree that people are uneducated. I was...until I was diagnosed. Reading and learning is what has really helped me through some rough days. Maybe that's why I get fearful of telling people cuz I know that my prior knowledge of herpes was based on the scary pictures they showed in sex ed. Hard to blame people for the stigma ...why become knowledgeable unless you have to right?! Guess that's a common thought.

I think most folks are typically 'uneducated' about a disease or condition until it hits close to home.... or in our cases, hits them in the FACE OR GENITALS!! LOL

I'm just trying to educate myself and use all the resources available to me thru this site. That way, I am armed to the teeth and prepared for the 'uneducated' to say something rude, snyde, or inappropriate to or about me. Kill them with kindness first, and then barrell them over with facts, studies, cultural stigma blasts, acceptance, and love!!!!! :flowers:

I would suggest you don t have to tell many people about it you have HSV ..May be you can tell people with whom you are in relationship now or any future partners ..telling anyone else will make unnecessary more worrying only ...
