Anyone think

gutted.

Maybe. Maybe... It won't be a complete cure for the already afflicted, but there will probably be a preventative vaccine in 10 years. And maybe a therapeutic vaccine too.

How much would a herpes vaccine cost you?

How much would a lifetime of herpes cost you? (pharmaceuticals, doctors/lab visits, your tax dollars used for research, etc...)

There's no money in a cure. Herpes provides a ton of money to people who hold pharma stock and highly paid positions in research and medicine.

Dump herpes in with cancers and AIDS. It's not about the cure.

That's probably true for some drug companies. I'm a researcher, and for me... it's not about the money. I can only hope that researchers in those companies feel the same. I know in the end it's the business execs that hold the pursestrings, but there's hope! Look at the HPV vaccine that was just released last year. True, it costs $400 a shot, but it will prevent cervical cancer and HPV.

At $400 it's about the money. Business runs our government and it's all about who can grab a piece of that $400. If our tax dollars were used for truly constructive things that benefited tax payers, a simple vaccine would be available to every tax payer at a reasonable price. And I'm not talking about robbing tax funds to pay the $400 per shot for those who can't afford it...

I hope you find a cure for us someday hopingseeking. I'm rooting for you!

The vacine does not prevent all types of hpv at all......there are over 100 strains of the hpv virus......also, not all strains cause cancer, and while it may help prevent some cases that may have been related to the few strains it protects against, it does not "prevent" people from getting cervical cancer......might help to prevent a small percentage of cases, but it is by no means a miracle drug, or even that big of a milestone........and when you think of all the people already infected with some strain of HPV....there is nothing to help them yet either so while some people are trying to look at this as a prevention for cervical cancer I feel it is not correct for people to try and market this as a huge cervical cancer drug.......plus check out the info....only a small population of women were studied, no info. is known on future effects of taking the shot, and the disclaimer says that it may not even be affective for some women in protecting them from the few strains it supposedly protects against. I know people who are honest and kind would like to believe that other researchers and people out there would be interested in actually trying to find cures and progressive vaccines to actually help people but the sad reality is that there are more researchers, or actually most times not the individual researchers....more so the companies as whole entities that are in it for the moeny. The hpv vaccine is a perfect example of a money based vaccine thats primary benefit is the money it brings in to Merck........and glaxosmithkline also has a vaccine that "failed" but they are working on revamping it currently and yet again.......a money maker. Sorry to rant on but the hpv vaccine and all the hype about it really anger me the way it is being marketed to people.....false advertising if you ask me and really do your own research on it.....and not just on Merck related sites. Sorry to rain on....just my feelings about it....wanted to get it out.

Sounds like progress is being made in finding a cure...but I'm not sure if they'll find one during my lifetime. Who knows!

In the meantime, I'll continue to see HSV as a way of making sure I take good care of myself, minimizing stress (and other BS) and letting it weed out the shallow people from my life :)

Heya BoxofRain,

You're right, thanks for clarifying my blanket statement.

Here's more detail for everyone, pulled from wikipedia:

The latest generation of preventive HPV vaccines are based on hollow virus-like particles (VLPs) assembled from recombinant HPV coat proteins. The vaccines target the two most common high-risk HPVs, types 16 and 18. Together, these two HPV types cause about 70 percent of all cervical cancer. Gardasil also targets HPV types 6 and 11, which together cause about 90 percent of all cases of genital warts.

So yes, it doesn't prevent everything, but it does prevent a lot, and although long-term effects aren't known, they didn't know the long-term effects of the polio vaccine either.

https://imgur.com/a/cVi8yJY 2 weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex. Few days later I wake up with a stinging sensation in my urethra. I don't have any blisters, lesions or redness, my penis looks completely normal from the outside, but the stinging in my urethra is always there. Urinating doesn't make the pain worse. From the research I've done and how my body feels I'm pretty sure I caught genital hsv1. To make matters worse I think I transmitted it to my eyelid by touching my infected penis and then my eyelid which did develop a blister. Can anyone look at my lower eyelid and tell me if it looks anything like herpes?  I forgot to add that the blister is painless, but my eye is a bit watery. Other than that it's fine and my eyesight is good. Considering how this all developed in a matter of a week after I had unprotected sex it can't be much else than herpes..

Hey I see that they also sell the pill form in 100 mg and 500 mg form. Do you think this is as affective? They have the regular and extract version of the pill. Which would you think is the right one to get? And how many pills per day to get the same effect of say 16 seeds?

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.
