Outbreak for almost a year, help!

Recommended Posts

Seffers

Hello, I have only had sex once and that was in January of last year, I can't remember when I first noticed the outbreak but it was a while ago and I figure that I must've contracted the virus from that, I am an 18 year old male however I have not been diagnosed with Herpes although I'm almost certain it is the virus. The herpes is situated on my thighs around my genitals however they're not as bad as they look on the web! They're bumps on my thigh that itch a lot and when I do itch (I know I shouldn't) the bumps get bigger, I've had this for a while now as I said before however I've been scared to do anything about it however I'm now in a relationship with a very lovely girl however she's also had no sexual activity and therefore won't be the most understanding gal when I tell her I have herpes, I really need some advice on this situation and wanted to know if there have been any similar outbreaks that have lasted far longer than expected, like myself... I dont take any medication regulary, don't drink alcohol very often at all however I smoke cannabis once a week, most weeks. Any help would be great an I'd really appreciate it!

From a very scared guy!

Hi Seffers ---

The first thing I will tell you is that it is unlikely for Herpes simplex to cause an outbreak that lasts a year. Experts on STIs would be quick to tell you that is not what is causing your symptoms.

Many other conditions can mimic Herpes simplex symptoms (and vice versa). Based on what you have described, a couple of very likely possibilities are yeast overgrowth infection (sometimes called jock itch) or genital warts.

The only way to know what you are really dealing with is to seek actual medical care. If you have current symptoms, the doctor can take a sample to be tested. Without current symptoms, you can get TYPE SPECIFIC IgG-based Herpes antibody (blood) tests for BOTH HSV-I and HSV-II.

Don't let a doctor try to decide whether or not you have HSV just by looking at it. You need bona fide laboratory testing to be sure of that.
