What do you use to stop the chafing. I can't even wear pants or underwear because it rubs on my OB. Walking and sitting both kill which means going to work where I don't have a couch or a bed to ly on really sucks. I just found out today that I have HSV and started Valtrex. I'm hoping it works miracles and tomorrow its not so bad. What do you suggest using to help? I was using vagisil but it made it too dry and stung, then hydro-cortizone which worked ok but I had to keep reaplying and I know it thins out and can bleach your skin. My doctor suggested vasoline which I am using now which helps stop the burning when I pee but still hurts too walk. HELP!! :confused: -frazzled

there is a really good "chafing" thing from the monistat company, its like silky powder its amazing. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=152485&catid=33587&trx=GFI-0-EVGR-11690&trxp1=33587&trxp2=152485&trxp3=1&trxp4=1&btrx=BUY-GFI-0-EVGR-11690

yup use vaseline or a&d ointment.

to help w/ the clothing rubbing, you can apply gauze bandages, like a sqaure and tape it to a area thats not having a outbreak so you pretty much completly cover the outbreak area.

when u pee, while at home, a non painfull way is to to it in the tub- fill it up strech out and go.

Thank You

Thank You.... God now I'm crying again. I know it sounds silly and maybe I'm just emotional because I just found out but I am so glad I found this site. Doctors can only tell you so much and shove you out a door. Its diffrent hearing things from people who are actually experiancing the same things that you are. The B* actually left alone in the room when I started crying.

Herpes Home Remedies - pain relief

What do you use to stop the chafing. I can't even wear pants or underwear because it rubs on my OB. Walking and sitting both kill which means going to work where I don't have a couch or a bed to ly on really sucks.

Try a few of the tips on our Herpes Home Remedies page, these might help give temporary relief for the pain (including pain when urinating).

These tips may help with the chaffing:

  • IF POSSIBLE, wear long, loose fitting, cotton slacks to act as a barrier between your skin
  • Apply Aloe vera gel to the redness to soothe and repair the irritation (or some other agent that soothes and restores)
  • Use a non-allergenic powder to help prevent rubbing

I was using vagisil but it made it too dry and stung, then hydro-cortizone which worked ok but I had to keep reaplying and I know it thins out and can bleach your skin. HELP!! :confused: -frazzled

Avoid any steroidal cream during an outbreak. Cortisone cream should definitely not be used for herpes, as it can make the condition worse.

Product Specs:

Hydrocortisone Cream

Do not use Hydrocortisone cream if you have ever had an allergic reaction to:

* Hydrocortisone

Do not use Hydrocortisone cream if you have:

* a viral skin infection (such as herpes simplex, cold sores, shingles or chicken pox),

* a fungal skin infection (such as thrush, tinea or ringworm),

* Tuberculosis condition of the skin,

* Vaccinia (cowpox: a viral disease passed from cattle),

* Varicella (a rare form of chicken pox), unless your doctor tells you.

Hydrocortisone cream should not be used if you suffer from poor circulation of blood in the skin region, as it may result in skin ulcers. Occlusive dressings should not be used if you have a skin infection.

Ask your doctor (or pharmacist) to be sure you do not have any of these conditions.

Before you start to use it you must tell your doctor if:

* you are allergic to any other medicines, foods, dyes or preservatives.

* you are pregnant or breast feeding.

* Do not apply Hydrocortisone cream to the breast before breast feeding.

Using other medicines

Tell your doctor (or pharmacist) if you are using other creams, ointments or lotions or taking any medicine. This includes any that you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.

Side Effects

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you do not feel well while you are using Hydrocortisone cream. Hydrocortisone cream helps most people with skin problems but it may have some unwanted side effects in a few people.

Side effects reported by some people using Hydrocortisone cream include:

* itching

* burning

* dryness

* acne-form eruptions

Hydrocortisone cream may cause other side effects. If you have any other side effects, check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not be alarmed by this list of possible side effects. You may not experience any of them.

Hope this helps ;)

Hydro-Cortisone Cream

Thanks for letting me know that. My Doctor told me it was ok to use it. Good thing she does her research. Ugh I'm so frustrated. I just want this OB to be overwith. What really sucks is that I deal with stress by working out and I can't work out when I can't even walk to the kitchen.

Hang in there Gnome :-|

Unfortunately, not all Doctors are well educated when it comes to herpes. Things will get better and in the meantime, there are many treatments that can help to reduce and clear the symtoms quickly. We have a summary / list of treatments on our website here: http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/herpes_treatment.htm

If you need any other information just let us know, support is here.

      Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

      Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.

      May 13 ( day I will never forget).. a guy I was dating and I drank way to much and decided to have anal sex. We did use protection however, not enough lube, wasn’t done correctly and it was painful. So bad that I yelled out and fell off the bed. Anyway, oral was also performed on me anal and vaginal. Flash forward to 3-4 days after that. I was in the most intense pain I had ever felt. I went to a gyn she tool one look and said it looks like herpes. She swabbed me . 2 days after that, yes it’s HSV1 . I was still in pain, irritated anal area and vaginal area and It was unbearable.  today, I still have irritation and itchy and when I pass a bowel i’m in pain and the itch is crazy.     When I first was diagnoses the gyn gave me valtrex which I did not take bc I was in so much pain I could not move for 2 days.  Groin lymphs were swollen I had fever , tired etc.  I am wondering if I had taken the valtrex would it have kinda liked stopped the virus in it’s tracks enough to reproduce? Do people see a correlation between no more outbreaks and immediate initial valtrex  use ? I am 43, I never thought this wound happen as I am not a promiscuous person, I hardly date and I always use protection when I do have intercouse , have yearly std tests. I’m just so sad that i’m at this point right now . I’m trying not to get depressed but this is making my body feel miserable. I’m an avid runner and biker and mom of two teens. I feel like my life as I knew is over. I want to feel better already.
