Devestated in Georgia

Just went for yearly pap and got a big surprize. Genital wart was present and further blood work was done and have genital herpes also. been married since 2008. husband got caught (and lied) in a situation this past Christmas but my diagnosis tells the story. Could a person have it that long without infecting their partner???? He now claims that he thought he might have it (them both) but has never done anything about it.... Wreckless person. I am devestated. My Last pap was fine.

hey late, yes herpes can lie dormant for weeks, months, even years depending on the person/virus itself.

how did you get diagnosed? a blood test? culture swab of any infected lesions?

its true that many people dont even know they have this, because testing of herpes isnt in standard std panels.

some people may also be asymptomatic with herpes and never show any signs of an outbreak. (could be possibility for husband)

if you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

a blood test was done and the doctor said that i have been infected but the antibodies have not kicked in....something like tht.

i have another appt and will be able to talk at that point ...i was devestated to the point that i had no questions or anything...

so i am assuming she was telling me that i just had gotten it very recently...what do i need to expect next....an outbreak???

I was just tested today, waiting on results but im almost certain there is no hope for me.

i have never had any health issues or even an irregular pap before... ive been with the same boyfriend for a little over a year. neither of us have ever had a cold sore or any irregularities.

a few days ago i developed painful urination and i have little bothersome bumps... but they dont look like the pictures i have googled..

im freaking out trying to figure out if this mean i was cheated on, or what? i have no idea how to even go about having this conversation with my boyfriend.. who is sweet but young minded and very uneducated on this issue... as am i ..

were you prescribed anything? i was prescribed a cream and a medication for the next 10 days... i guess until the results are back =/

Hey all! I’m new and my diagnosis is pending. I’ve done so much research that I have a new understanding and respect for people living with herpes. That being said it wasn’t like that alway, I had been a part of a stigma we all know very well up until my latest annual pap. So I went in and had my pap and just a routing std check. Two days later and my OB calls and says everything’s good on the pap and the bloood work came back but there’s an acute result for herpes. Although he states he doesn’t know which kind or where and to come back in 6 weeks. So me being the 22 yo uneducated student, freaks out. I am asymptomatic and at the time he advises to check around my mouth and lips for any cold sores. I had a minor canker sore like lesion on my gum above my tooth and that was it super minor discomfort. So I went into a care now and the doctor did a pcr swab of the cut and another igm and an igg. So it’s about 5 days waiting period and during that time I get sick, similar to pharyngitis ( it was so bad I went back, the doctor gave me  Valacyclovir in case it was an outbreak). So now I really am thinking ok this is most like HSV-1 being it’s possible but less likely to be HSV -2 And I have zero symptoms on my genitals unless it’s dormant. And then plot twist, I get all results back, second igm, viral swab, and igg and all negative! What is going on?

Hey @sheikha and welcome to the website. Different tests around the world have different numbers as to what means positive.  Do you have details of what test was performed? Does the paperwork indicate what number means positive? For some tests it’s 1.1, others 11 and some more than 20!

What symptoms brought you to test in the first place

Over 3.3 is a strong positive. You could repeat that test. I'd assume I had it.

Lysine seemed to dry the blisters during outbreaks.  They would take about the same time to heal but there would be no/less fluid while using lysine.  At first it seemed like it was reducing the amount of outbreaks, but after a couple months they were coming just as often as before - if not more often.
