It burns when I pee and I dont have outbreaks!!!

Hi..

I originally posted this under the bacterial vaginosis post but I decided to make my own thread. Ive had genital herpes type-1 for 2 years now (I was still a virgin and got it from oral sex even though none of the 4 boyfriends I was ever with had a cold sore.. go figure). Anyways about a week after my first outbreak cleared up it started burning when I peed. I saw my doc and there was no UTI or yeast infection.. so she put me on supressive therapy (valtrex 500mg a day) cause she thought maybe I was having recurring outbreaks. That didnt fix the problem so she put me on 1000mg a day... still didnt clear it up. She kept having me come in to check for a UTI (which ive never had) and still they were negative. She just sort of brushed it off and so did my regular doctor figuring it was probably nothing and all in my head or something.. My primary doctor told me to just drink a lot of water to dilute my urine which I do anyways cause it seems to be the only thing that helps. Ive never had another outbreak besides that first one and I only have type-1 which isnt supposed to be bad. It also hurts when my boyfriend and I have sex which turns me off to it. I dont know why my initial outbreak would have caused this but im really sick of it hurting everytime I pee!! Anyways I searched the web up and down for what this might be since my doctors dont seem to give a rats ass. The only thing I came up with was vulvodynia. I did have a full pelvic exam in the summer of 2006 and everything came up clear. Im going in next wednesday and getting to the bottom of this because im sick of it.

If ANYONE has had this problem or has any suggestions please let me know!!!

Hey I have the same problem but it comes on and off.. Some days its better and some days its worse...But I have it 24/7...I would suggest going to see a Urologist....A obgyn isn't very good for dealing with your uretha etc. She just deals with vagina etc. A urologist knows his stuff.....infact i should check into it also

Yeah same with me its on and off.. if i drink a lotta water it doesnt hurt so much and other times its worse. I tolerate it though and ive just gotten so used to it. I am going to see her and hopefully she will refer me to a urologist. Idk why herpes would cause this but it has to be the culprit.

My appointment is not until Wednesday.. I hate waiting for it I just wanna get it over with and be better!! Ive been taking cranberry capsules 3 times a day since last Thursday and stopped drinking tea every night but I havent seen much improvement. My bf is coming over tonight and I know he wants to have sex since its been like 2 or 3 weeks and I want to also.. but it just feels inflammed down there and the last thing I feel like doing is having sex!!! This really sucks but ill try to be a good girlfriend and suck it up though and try to enjoy myself. Hopefully after Wednesday I can put this behind me..

Well I went to the doctors today and she told me she thinks I have a chronic yeast infection. It HAS to be because of the herpes because this started a week after I had my first outbreak 2 years ago and has been this way ever since. Im going to take the meds and try to alter my diet and see if that helps me. Im so glad to finally have some type of answer... im praying this works.

I found an inexpensive homeopathic yeast treatment that works really well for me. If you are interested in trying something natural PM me and I'll share.

It's a good old fashioned treatment.

I to have a similar problem. My trouble spot is only on one side of my vagina (my right side). When I urinate it tingles just a little and sex, please, it hurts t he entire time no matter how lubricated I am. I started having the problem in July or 06. I didn't get any relief until my ob done an exam and saw a lesion type sore. She asked if there was any history of herpes, of course at that time I saw no. She gave me some metrogel and told me to follow up with a gyn. The metrogel appeared to work b/c when I went to my f/u my gyn said that he could see where the lesion had been as it was red and still inflammed but it was healing. He was a new doctor so I requested all of my std's. 1 week later I was told that I had herpes and that my numbers indicated that I had been recently exposed. I still have this problem on and off. I really want to put a stop to it.

Well I did the yeast infection treatment which didnt do anything. Then she did another urine culture the other day and that was negative. She wants me to go in next week for a full exam to see if she can find anything else. I mean I KNOW this is all related to getting herpes because it all started right after that first outbreak. Maybe the virus has caused some nerve damage or a viral infection that isnt being detected. Im afraid shes gonna send me to a urologist and they will start doing tests on me. Ughh I have a huge phobia of doctors/hospital/needles to begin with. I dont need this!!! Im so sick of it and im getting really frustrated. Especially since only a couple other people have had somewhat similar symptoms. I feel like im the only one going throuh this!

Astara, I understand your frustration, I have herpes recurrence once a month for more than a year now... medicines don't do much... Also I have this stubbon recurrent UTI which gives tightness and sore when I pee... try to keep a calendar for when it bothers you and your related activities--I have it when I go hiking or things that make me drink less water, also when wear tighter pants, certain days of the month--then you will get an idea how to deal with it, and religiously follow it. If it is a side effect of herpes, which I doubt mine is too, then have to increase the medicines on that. Did you try high Vc intake?

Actually I just saw my regular doctor the other day and she told me to take vitamin c to make my urine acidic.. but I told her I was takin cranberry pills and it wasnt doing anything so she said not to bother cause its the same thing. Im going to my gyno this week for a full exam so she can get to the bottom of this. I dont know how shes going to fix me but im praying she can because everytime I think about having sex I just get sad cause I cant be normal. The more water I drink the better I feel when I pee but it still doesnt fix the sex problem. Idk how its all linked but it is.. and it bothers me to think that the doctors dont know what it is yet cause im afraid ill never get better.

I'm afraid that you may have ob's inside your urethra.

The cranberry is great for keeping your bladder ph acidic which results in bacteria not being able to grow there and this reduces bladder infections but can't do anything for a virus.

Vitamin C on the other hand helps your body to produce interferon which helps to fight viruses. You would do well to take vitamin c with bioflavanoids every day. Your body does not store vitamin c.

Water is good for you on so many levels I can't begin to tell you why it is important to always drink as much water a day as you can.

so does that mean that viral shedding could happen thru your fluids too?

I'm not a dr but I have read about people having ob's in their urethra's brought on by contact through oral sex.

Women are prone to bacterial issues from intercourse and oral sex far more frequently than men. This isn't bacterial but I think the same risk exists.

Does that mean the virus is in the bodily fluid? I don't know. When we have it internally do we have it in vaginal fluid? I don't know. But why are the numbers of transmission from women to men so much lower if this was true. I think it is not in the fluid it is on the skin but I don't know how to answer that question.

I imagine that nerves to the urethra could be ultra-sensitive to the viral infection and be reacting. It really sucks is all I can say.

How much vitamin c a day do you think is a good amount? Im willing to try anything at this point! Its funny cause I was taking a b-complex for about a month and that just exasperated my problem. It was burning so bad when I peed it was crazy and I didnt know why.. so I stopped the b-complex and now im back to where I was before: slight burning on and off but not nearly as bad as it was on that vitamin !!! Hopefully the doc can give me some answers this week.

Oh and you know what else is crazy.. When I had my first (and only) outbreak it didnt hurt when I peed at all... only on the outside. Now it hurts to pee as its coming out. (TMI?!)

I take 800 mg. of vitamin c in the morning and sometimes the chewables (if I think of it) when at work.

Read up on vitamin c online or any other vitamin you plan on taking before you start so you know the side effects or what not to combine them with and if you regularly take prescription meds it is good to consult with your physician first.

I preach water big time. You wouldn't take a bath or wash your clothes in iced tea, soda pop, coffee etc. Your body craves lots of fresh pure water to keep your system running smoothly. Of course, don't try to drink a gallon at one time but make sure you up your daily consumption. Your bladder (and urethra) will thank you.

Gosh I am soo sorry to hear your problem hasn't been fixed at all. I've just been settling and hoping it will go away on its own. The only time my pee burns is after sex and if I have alot of liquid around the area. Such as if Im on my period and wearing a pad or a tampon, it will burn while im peeing and for about an hour after. When i have especially it burns bad. I dont even know what to say to you at this point. One thing I have noticed is, when I drink alot of water, im talking like 8-10 bottled waters it doesn't burn as much. So as soon as you wake up, grab a glass of water and drink it. Any mealsa or snack you have grab a glass of water and drink nothing but water and it feels better for me.

Update

Ok so here the scoop on whats been goin on...

I saw my gyn last week and she did a culture. Called me the next day and said I have bacterial vaginosis. She also said that the problems im having dont have anything to do with the herpes. I beg to differ considering my problems only started RIGHT after my initial outbreak. I dont know but hopefully the meds will clear it up. Im glad she said its SOMETHING because at this point im willing to try any meds that will get rid of whats going on. I guess im in the same boat as you now Kayla! Ill let you guys know how I do on the meds.. Im keepin my fingers crossed! Only problem now is I cant drink any alcohol for the next week! :(

Urine cultures are usually not very good. For women, they don't even report infections under what- 100,000? Also, most places only culture it for 24 hours, missing infections that take longer to grow. I rec this lab in Mclean, VA. If you google the city and "urine culture" you will find it. They will culture it for 3 days and report all counts. You could have low-level e coli or proteus mirabilis infection.

Lastly, you should have your ob-gyn culture you for mycoplasma/ureaplasma. This can be treated with long-term doxy.

Also, it could be the virus bothering you. In this case, hopefully in time it will go away.

https://imgur.com/a/cVi8yJY 2 weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex. Few days later I wake up with a stinging sensation in my urethra. I don't have any blisters, lesions or redness, my penis looks completely normal from the outside, but the stinging in my urethra is always there. Urinating doesn't make the pain worse. From the research I've done and how my body feels I'm pretty sure I caught genital hsv1. To make matters worse I think I transmitted it to my eyelid by touching my infected penis and then my eyelid which did develop a blister. Can anyone look at my lower eyelid and tell me if it looks anything like herpes?  I forgot to add that the blister is painless, but my eye is a bit watery. Other than that it's fine and my eyesight is good. Considering how this all developed in a matter of a week after I had unprotected sex it can't be much else than herpes..

Hey I see that they also sell the pill form in 100 mg and 500 mg form. Do you think this is as affective? They have the regular and extract version of the pill. Which would you think is the right one to get? And how many pills per day to get the same effect of say 16 seeds?

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.
