eczema herpeticum

I just found out about this and wanted to warn everyone else who has herpes and eczema just like I do (I have genital herpes and eczema on my hands and inside my elbows). Apparently if you have herpes and you touch the area you have it in while you are having an outbreak of eczema the two can interact and spread a severe rash either in the area that you generally have eczema or all over your skin. I was looking at some pictures and they are incredibly daunting! I know that this will make me a hundred times more paranoid than I already am. I just wanted to share because I was unaware about this and thought that maybe there were others who should know about this too.

hi there,

I have eczema too (mostly on my hands...sometimes other areas) and this is one of the many reason why I have developed a form of OCD where I am obsessively washing my hands now. Anytime I touch myself down "there" be it from cleaning to sexual, whatever! I wash my hands immediately and thoroughly....to thorough, as you know, excessive soap and water can fire up the old eczema. It is a catch 22.

I have recently gotten this little pimple-like bumps in the palms of my hands, and I am ALWAYS worried that it is herpes whitlow of somekind, but then went online and found another form of eczema and it looks just like it. But I am petrified of contracting herpes whitlow. Then what?!!? I have a baby, and have to hold and tend to him all the time.....would I have to wear gloves for the rest of his toddler years?!?!? it is scary and frustrating. I am 99% sure it is my eczema, and it IS from the overzealous handwashing, but in the back of my head, I think...nope...it could be herpes.

I hate this damn virus. I really do. I hate second guessing myself and everything around me and THAT is what this virus has taken from me.

I am glad that you posted this info though, I think most people should be aware. Many of us have eczema.

I agree...I see little bumps on my hands where I KNOW I have had eczema my whole life and it looks just like it always has in the past before I had herpes...yet I am still curious if it is herpes or not. I have been washing my hands a lot because I am paranoid about spreading the virus to other areas, but I use cetaphil soap (it is mild and kind to the eczema on my hands). I also slather up with Curel lotion afterwards to try to keep the eczema at bay.

I know how you feel...I wish I could talk to my pre-herpes self and slap her around a little bit for all of the things that I always took for granted that I have to constantly think about now.

hey there leebee...

I am glad to know I am not the only one who sees every little bump or rash and thinks "oh no, it is herpes!" I use to get (from my eczema) this little weird bumps that were like pimples or blisters around my fingers and in between my fingers. It can totally be mistaken for herpes. Just tiny, itchy little things. NOW I will get the same thing, and my first reaction is that I do have herpes whitlow or something. I am also paranoid about spreading it to my toddler inadvertenly.

THIS is what sucks abuot this virus and why I get so pissed when you get these yahoos who say "oh, get over it, its nothing but a skin condition, blah blah blah".

Um. NO. It is NOT.

I mean, yes, in a sense it is, but NOBODY "caught" eczema from me, and I didn't "catch it" from anybody. HERPES CAN BE PASSED ONTO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING...an therein lies the difference and why I think there is such a stigma attached to it. It is contagious. It is lifelong.

I am not so much worried about my mate catching it, he is a grown man fully capable of making his own decisions.I worry about accidently passing it to my kids somehow. I get coldsore too, so I have the extra double worry. It is a wonder I don't have ulcers! ugh!

I try not to ever let this crap get to me. But there are some days when it gets quite frustrating, even now, 3 1/2 years/4 years later. I would like to smack the pre-herpes OUCH as well, tell myself to not take things for granted!

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us

To give everyone confidence that it wasn’t herpes related and conclude as the doctor did that it was a dermatitis issue to refer back to the dermatologist to continue with investigations.

Both a dermatologist and infectious disease doctor prescribed him HSV medicine. Why would they do that if this isnt "what herpes really does"?
