I have been recently tested for all the stds. I was told by my doctor that I have HSV I and II. I am so devastated. I do not know which way to turn. I am a woman in her fifties. My doctor did not give me much information or what can be done. I Feel so alone. I have not told anyone yet except for the exboyfriend who infected me. All I read and see do not look like what I have. Any advice will greatly be appreciated.

welcome to a great forum to get educated on hsv. I really enjoy the candid and frank discussions.

Many of us don't have the classic symptoms of hsv and even more of us report our ob's not looking at all like the scary pictures out there.

What I'd start out with is that your common everyday coldsore that you've seen people walking around with your entire life is actually herpes and until recently it was pretty common for it to be hsv1.

Hsv is contagious and condoms are not 100% effective in preventing infections. Hsv 1 and 2 can be found in oral and genital infections and both can be transmitted through oral or genital contact.

You didn't mention if there were symptoms you were experiencing that prompted your testing. Many people can have hsv 1 or 2 for many years and not know because they don't have symptoms or they were so insignificant as to be overlooked.

I had mild symptoms for at least 8 years before I had an ob and then the tests were negative. My ob's don't look like the pictures and mostly present as intense back pain. The antiviral medications work very well for me. I also recommend that you consider supplementing your diet with vitamins that help control hsv ob's. Please know that you are not alone! It just feels that way right now.

I was diagnosed just under two weeks ago. I have been reading anything and everything I can get my hands on, and talking to trusted friends. I have to say that sharing with my friends has helped significantly. I think the feeling of having a terrible secret was as bad as having this dreaded virus.

I don't feel like I have much to offer at this point except moral support.

For me, knowing others are here sharing their experience and knowledge helps a lot.

I hope you keep learning about the virus, get an idea of what the trigger foods are, and buy yourself some L-Lycine and other suppliments to help your system stay ob free.

Herpes is not the end of the world. In the beginning, its a very difficult thing to deal with but as time goes by, you will feel a whole lot better about yourself. This site will help you a lot because we are all here for one another. I also was tested possitive for HSV 1 & 2 about a month ago. I always knew that I had 1 but 1 is not as big a deal as 2 although it should be but society accepts 1 more than 2. I also suffer from high blood pressure & thats more serious than HSV. Just keep GOD close & everything will work out....
