i had red swollen labia and burning upon urination, burning upon defecating which brought me to a dr. at std clinic who said it looks just like herpes. She did all these tests and gave me acloyvir. The tests -I will not know anything until another wk. My symptoms have escalated to pain and itching and blisters now. and pain has spread from my butt to my shoulders and my forhead and my nose is itchy now. my partner of 8 years says he did research on the internet and thinks it's shingles not herpes. these problems have been going on for more than 3 weeks. Just when I start to feel better I get more blisters down there and it starts burning all over again. of course, I had tingling at various times and stabbing pains too and now I have got a sore throat. I get a fever at times but not all the time. could this be shingles? Is there much difference in shingles or herpes?

Shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus, which for some reason, comes out very occasionally. It usually hits the elderly.. suspected reason is that their immune system is weaker.

Your symptoms and what your doctor says makes me suspect that herpes is what you have unfortunately... keep on the acyclovir, think about going to valtrex. If you want to make sure of what you have, have your doctor take a swab of your open blister asap, and also get a blood test for herpes.

sounds like herpes.

Shingles is usually in places other than the genitals and usually only one one side of the body such as right or left and often on the face or the trunk of the body. It is also especially painful.

yes shingles is painful but you can get it anywhere not just limited to the areas of the trunk or neck. You gotta remember it hides between the nerves

what is the appropriate, if there is such a thing, type of blood test to get for herpes testing? i found a web site that lists several different types, including western blot. Most of the blood tests show results (or testing) takes 1-2 weeks, except for the finger prick, which is instant. I had bloodwork done on a friday and the following tuesday my doctor called me with results (unfortunately positive results). thanks.

To give some context I hve been suffering with this for the last 6/7 years this came about after I had varicella zoster on the inside of my body a week after I started getting clusters of spots on the top of my buttock they are not painful as such can be itchy at times but majority of the time I don’t feel it when I have an outbreak. I’ve been to various doctors who say it’s a fungal skin infection or a bacterial skin infection. I’ve asked if it’s herpes but they will say it’s not without even testing it.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us
