canker sores due to HSV? help ASAP please.

I was diagnosed with g-HSV 5 weeks ago and have had painful canker sores in my mouth on and off since then. I was put on acyclovir immediately following diagnosis and have stayed on it since.

Originally they were on my tonsils, I still have problems with them but the sores are now healed on my tonsils. Now though for the past few days I have had immensely painful and larger than average sores in my mouth, all over (gums, cheeks, possibly the back of my throat).

I'm not sure if this is common or not, was looking for any help or info I could get. Going on vacation soon so won't be able to get an appt. for 2 weeks and the symptoms may be gone by then. Any insight is great, thanks.

Oh and any recommendatiosn for curbing the hairloss on acyclovir would be greatly appreciated too.

Are you sure they are canker sores? My mom always had us swish warm salty water around in our mouths several times a day and this helps to heal them. There is also a canker sore rinse from Oral B.

Canker sores are usually kinda grey in the center. Is this what you are seeing?

Wish I could help on the hair loss. I don't know why it effects some people that way. I'd up my daily supplementation of calcium/magnesium and vitamin d to give the body more to work with.

It is possible that when you contracted genital herpes, you also contracted oral herpes of the same strain during the same act of sexual contact, or if you ever gave oral sex any other time to the person who infected you genitally. It sucks to think about, but it does happen. Especially the way you say you have them in the back of your throat and mouth, which is common if you contracted it orally (inside the mouth) by giving an infected male a blow job....the infected part would have touched all those areas in the mouth. Often oral herpes that occur on the inside of the mouth present looking like canker sores. So based on how many you have had in the mouth, as well as the fact they have been occuring since you got it genitally, the chance of that is high. If you were tested by blood then you would only know you got type 2 and based on genital symptoms you assumed it was only genital, but it does happen where a person contracts the same strain in both the genital area and the mouth area at the same time. A blood test just tells you that you have the virus. Even if you had a culture test genitally it would tell you it was located genitally, but could in fact also be in your mouth if you contracted it there as well. A few people on here have posted this happened to them. So if you gave the person oral sex that gave the virus to you, then there is a good chance you got it orally as well. Especially if you gave them oral sex during the same day that you contracted it genitally from them, as they were very contagious then. Tell your doctors about the concern and ask if theres a way to test if it is in fact inside the mouth. when people think of oral herpes they usually picture outbreaks outside the mouth or on the lip region, but many people have internal outbreaks in their mouths as well. good luck, I hope you have a good doctor who knows about herpes and will be able to help you.

Thanks. Leaning towards those thoughts as well. After writing the initial post I developed sores on the inside of my top lip, and the outercorners of my bottom lip, both lips swelled greatly and I'm in a lot of pain. I believe it's HSV-1 which is what I also believe I contracted genitally through oral sex. However neither of us have gotten tested so it's highly possible he gave it to me in both areas through genital contact and not his lips, he's had no hsv-2 symptoms but grew up with coldsores.

Now since I believe this is an initial outbreak I'm trying to deal with the severe pain and swelling, and lack of being able to eat or speak properly. Any kind of advice you could give me on that would be great, since everthing hurts and all things I've tried are mostly a quickfix. Thanks again.
