new and needing clarification

HI there,

Heres my story. I have sufferd from cold sores on the mouth all my adult life. they usually occur when I've been run down. Fair enough, I've dealt with them they havent been a problem.

I am in a new relationship after my 16 yr marriage ended last year during which the last 6 yrs there was no sexual contact. We have been together for 4 months and sexually active (unprotected) the whole time. My first cold sore came about a month into the relationship and though we kissed and made love we avoided oral sex til it had cleared. The next I treated with l-lysine and eucalyptus oil and echinacea, and as it did not blister, had normal sexual relations.

nearly 3 weeks ago I had what I thought was a water infection and took otc meds as we were going abroad that day. 4 days later my bf shows me small blisters on the end of his penis, we googled and self-diagnosed herpes and put it down to him coming to the end of a stressful job, being in the heat and in speedos. Just his immune system being down and it hits him. Foolishly we continued to have sex.(No oral). When we arrived home I went and bought l-lysine and we have both been taking daily doses of 500mg.

Meanwhile my water infection symptoms seem to have come to nothing. 11 days later I get my period so cant keep a check on things as easily. Then yesterday I notice a cold sore starting on my lip and have been supressing again with eucalyptus oil, echinacea and doubled the l-lysine.

My questions are ;

Was my water infection-like symptoms part of the herpes virus ? If so, did I pass it to him that quickly ? You can imagine what has been going around in my head regarding his loyalty, hes been working away in week since I've known him.

I have lost weight since the begining of this relationship, about 14 pounds, could that be related ?

Am I likely to get the virus in the genital area ? (I have read the link about site preference)

Neither of us have been to docs as we had two holidays back to back. Very confused about type 1 and 2. Can GP's in Uk do the test or do you have to go to the special unit ?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I don't know what a water infection is. That is a new one. As for hsv a person can be infected for many years and not know it or have symptoms. My point is that your bf could have already had it and not know.

OR

If you only have oral hsv and have never performed oral sex on your current boyfriend then it would be unlikely that you passed hsv on to him. That is a big IF. (see below)

BUT

IF at anytime during your marriage your husband performed oral sex on you it is possible that you could have contracted genital herpes but it would be difficult to diagnose if you never had a genital ob. I am basing this possibility on the fact that you may have passed oral to your husband, even though he may not have known or had symptoms, and he could pass it to your genitals if oral sex was performed on you. If that is a possibility you could have passed it to your now bf through genital sex.

If you have ever performed oral sex on your current bf, with or without an active cold sore, you still could infect him genitally with hsv.

here is a link that explains the differences in hsv 1 & hsv 2.

Thank you Caliope,

Me and bf have had oral sex so yes it is possible I infected him. I didnt know that you could pass it on without any active sores. Although given the difference in amount of sexual partners each of us has had in the last 16 yrs it is highly possible he already had it. HIs outbreak could have been due to stress, heat and tight clothing. We are dealing with it with a great deal of acceptance for which I am glad as possibly the worst thing about hsv is blame, and I'm guessing that very often it is the person with oral hsv that can be easily seen, is usually the one blamed.

A water infection is a bladder infection or cystitis. I read somewhere that hsv can be misdiagnosed as that in women.

gutted - it is a "bladder infection" and now I can see how simple that was to figure out if only I wasn't thinking it was something you get from swimming. LOL

mamma- you asked if you can now get this genitally from your bf and the answer is yes.

If it is hsv.

Been sore and inflamed down below for last four days, found one tiny sore today , looks exactly like ones he had. Not going to take anti-viral meds from docs, using homeopathy and lysine / vit C / zinc / echinacea / aloe vera gel ..

Just got it from my new boyfriend

HI,

I started seeing this new guy Matt, we had our private parts rubbed together until its time for the condom to go on. I always get checked every 6 months to confirm my self that I don't have any STI.

He was the only person I had sex with for the first time since I broke with my ex 8 months ago.

Not feeling well I went to the doctor to get all test done and found out that I have just receive GH 2,

I will be telling him tonight. 5/06/07

Got the facts and there's is nothing you can do about it. You have it for life, so instead stressing about just fix the problem when the blisters arrive. Dynmaiclear which I will be going to purchase on line will save me from further serious outbreaks.

you're obligated to share what your homeopath gave you. especially if it worked.

???? what was it.

HI Caliope, I am a student homeopath myself so taking the suppressive meds was never an option for me.

Homeopathy works by looking at the whole person, there are many remedies specifically for herpetic eruptions but you need to find one that is suited to you constitutionally. My remedy was SEPIA. A good homeopath, and mine is very good and knows me very well, will find the correct remedy for you. They will take into account your mental state, family history, what you are predisposed to, what you genetically inherited etc . Self prescribing isnt a good idea.

I dont know how much homeopathic consultations are in the US but I highly recommend them. It can take a few months for the remedy acion to become apparent, sometimes it is immedeate, depends on what needs to be cured, how long you've sufferred, any other crap you are carrying. By all means do a quick search for herpes and homeopathy, NAT MUR is the most common remedy for oral cold sores.

  • 1 year later...

Hi

Im upping this as I havent been on for a while.

Is it possible to be totally unaware of a first OB?

As described above my symtoms back then was one small spot which didnt appear to come to anything much, tho I did have sex with my bf.

I recall having a small blister last summer which I put down to being burned on a sunbed.

Over the last year I have battled with bacterial vaginosis and suspected yeast infections (bf also has jock itch). BV I recognise cos of the discharge colour and smell. Since the begining of the year it has been almost constant problems down below. I had a biopsy on blackmarks on my vulva, this was benign lesions but unexplained as to how they got there. I had what I thought was cystitis, 2 cold sores, BV again and now a slightly different symptom, pain and inflammation further up.

Ive been treating naturally with tea tree oil on tampons and yogurt on tampons and finally a tea tree vaginal wash which I thought I may be allergic to as last week I developed a blister inbetween my labia.

I have been swabbed and tested for candida, fungus, strep, chlamydia etc and all came back as negative. I finally went to the GUM clinic yesterday when the blister had burst and have had a proper test but wont know for 2 weeks. My suspicion is,that I have had herpes all along and not recognised it as Ive never had the aches and pains, stinging and general bad first OB.

Since my last post I have been taking lysine 2000mg , vit C 1000mg , zinc and garlic daily. My feeling is that I have managed to keep it mild by taking the supplements.

BF's last outbreak was last Nov and I was cold sore free until Jan when I had another 6 weeks later. And now this, no pain or discomfort unless seam of knickers in wrong place but I have a white discharge (unusual for me).

Has anyone else had experience like this ?

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.
