I just found out 2 days ago that I have herpes, the doctors are still not sure what kind it is. I am a woman who's has been married for 5 years and has been nothing but faithful to my husband I believe he has too. He was with me at the doctors when we found out and seemed just as shocked as I was. I am not so much concerned with how I got it, I am more concerned with how I am going to cope with it. I am a mother of 2 girls and for the past 3 days I have pain in the worst pain of my life. My tub and hair dryer are my best friend. My husband and I have chosen not to tell anyone so i am feeling a bit alone at this time I am vey thankful I found this site. Can anyone tell me how long this pain will go on, I feel like its unberable I wsa given vicodin but that doesn't seem to be working.

I am suprised to hear your doctor prescribed Vicodin for the pain associated with gshv. I found out about my diagnosis 8 days ago. The pain was unbareable and I popped a few advil and soaked in an epsom salt bath and it seemed to do the trick. Also, if you can get a little alone time...I laid around in just a towel with a fan pointed in the general direction of my affected area for about 20-30 mins and it gave me a little bit of relief. Did the doc. prescribe you any creams? I had zovirax cream which seemed to help tremendously. It took about 2-3 days but i feel it worked wonders.

I am now 8 days into it and there is a bit of a "feeling" down there that i don't know how to describe (slightly itchy, slightly a burn) but the pain has totally subsided.

Good luck!! For the most part we are all in this together :)

She perscribed the vicodin before she new what I had, I had originally went in there for pain in my vaginal area and she thought I had cycst on my ovaries than 2 days later I went back in becuase the pain became unbearable and thats when she told my I had herpes. I have just went and bought the salt and some oatmeal releif for the bath. We'll see how well it works I was not given a prescription for any cream. Should I call and ask for one?

I'm not sure why the doctors don't know what type you have....it seems as if they should..I understand you not being all that concerned with how you got it since it is hard to pinpoint especially since both of you have been faithful, which means that one of you contracted it prior to becoming a couple.....I too, like you am having issues with how to cope with this although it will be 2 years this year......the outbreaks are just a reminder to me of what i have to deal with for the rest of my life.....i hear that it gets easier, though with time...i hope its true....cause enough time has not passed for me.

if you are prescribed meds. dont take any. it's best to not taking any meds during your first outbreak. it's best to let nature take it's course.... you can of course use things to ease the pain, numbing tooth gel actually. apply that to your genital sores and it works wonders. but otherwise if you take meds during your first ob... you could risk having worse ob's later. so during your 2nd ob feel free to get on meds, but otherwise... dont do it.

Jesskasubercool - I was told the absolute opposite about antivirals.

Your body will immediately start designing an immune response with or without the presence of antiviral medications but it is the first exposure and subsequent infection that does the most harm when it settles into the nervous system.

This is because you have no initial defense and the virus can get in to your cells and begin replicating. By taking antivirals in the beginning you keep the replication from occuring while your body mounts its defense. later on when your immune system has created antibodies it can send them at will to try to fight the infections. In theory if you halt the virus from replicating at the first infection when it is most virulent you will have fewer infected cells that transmit the virus for ob's in the future.

To give some context I hve been suffering with this for the last 6/7 years this came about after I had varicella zoster on the inside of my body a week after I started getting clusters of spots on the top of my buttock they are not painful as such can be itchy at times but majority of the time I don’t feel it when I have an outbreak. I’ve been to various doctors who say it’s a fungal skin infection or a bacterial skin infection. I’ve asked if it’s herpes but they will say it’s not without even testing it.

Hello there @momma267 and welcome. There is no reason to believe that what you have there is other than a pressure sore, something that has emerged from rubbing with clothing or butt cheeks and exacerbated by bacteria or yeast.  Note that the first you’d learn of herpes is unlikely to be on your butt, instead where it enters your body, this is usually within the vaginal lips for females.

So to begin with, I am 26 and have been with the same partner for 8 years. I have only been with three people ever, one completely protected and the other we were both our firsts. I got this rash on my but while pregnant and my doctor said she was testing for it and I'm so confused. I've had two babies, breastfeed, and never had anything as much as a cold sore. Does this look like something anyone has experienced? I used fragrant soap down there and am hoping it's contact dermatitis or a heat rash from sweating and gaining so much weight.  Advice would be helpful. I'm stressing out a bit as I am pregnant. Hi, it is me again, apologies for the recent influx of posts. I've noticed a slightly raised area on the middle of my top lip with what i feel are some bumps. i do have a habit of biting my lips a fair bit and this area is frequented by my teeth. I haven't noticed any unusual/abnormal tingling or burning or pain sensations. the photos are a bit difficult to focus on them but do these seem like the start of cold sores? note: I will be visiting the drs for an std checkup in the coming week. https://imgur.com/gallery/YLVA5us
