Gland swelling

June

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm having a breakout - I'm pretty sure I've caused it myself :( by excessive scratching of the same area on my labia majora. I have had a few breakouts before, but this time, the gland on the right side of my groin (the side where the breakout is) is REALLY swollen big time... I've been applying H-balm and taking some aspirin. The scab is already forming, so I'm not sure if I should see a doctor anyway. What do you think?

Wow, that is how my first ob presented itself but I was given oral yeast medication for that infection first then the Valtrex later on but perhaps the antibiotics helped too since I'd been ill with something before the outbreak.

The swelling should be looked at by a doctor, yes!! Then you'll know for sure what is going on and how to treat it or not. Don't delay! Any swellings should be checked out, I feel, since it could be more serious than just herpes, you just never can be too sure.

Take care.

I had the same thing as you do, big swelling glands on the right side. My doctor gave me 1gx2 per day valtrex for many days(more than five), and same time antibiotics because of the swelling. Also used topical Bactrin ointment. But my glands never really went back to nothing, I can always feel two of them on the right side. When an ob comes, they became even bigger and sometimes hurt. I am still wondering how to get them back to normal...

  • 4 weeks later...

I don't know if another STD can cause swollen glands (except HIV) but I definately had swollen nodes in my groin on the side that my lesion appeared. Almost a month later, I still get some achy feelings down there occasionally (although the node is not palpable now). I also had a fever, aches, headache, chills, etc....I had NO idea herpes could cause this. It is most prevelent in the first ob. Good luck to you!

Thrush is a yeast infection caused by Candida Albicans. It usually causes itching. Candida is a fungus and shows frequently when there is hot weather, after a round of antibiotics, or if you tend to eat way too much sugary foods.

It can make your skin very itchy and for the ladies can cause an itchy, white discharge and redness. It is very uncomfortable and can be treated either with otc yeast treatments and now there is an rx that is one pill.

Men can get this too but it presents differently.

Groin lymph nodes

Does anyone get swollen or sore groin lymph nodes during their ob????

Mine don't appear swollen, but they are sore on both sides.

*sigh*

swollen glands

Out of the two outbreaks that I have had, (approx. a year apart with the first being severe, and the most recent being moderate-very uncomfortable) both times i have had swollen glands on either side of my lower hip area/ upper pelvic (groin) that increased in size and sensitivity throughout the ob, and reduced slowly as the healing took place. My doctor (who i would be the first to say is entirely uninformed on HSV1-2 in the first place..) said it is common for these glands to swell and become very tender to the touch during outbreaks. Here is some helpful/general information that I found off of a medical website:

Lymph nodes play an important part in the body's defense against infection. Swelling might occur even if the infection is trivial or not apparent. Swelling of lymph nodes generally results from localized or systemic infection, abscess formation, or malignancy. Lymph nodes produce lymph, which travels throughout your body in the lymph system, and filters impurities from the body.

Soreness in lymph glands usually disappears in a couple of days without treatment, but the nodes may not return to normal size for several weeks after the infection has cleared. Generally, if glands are painful, it is because they swell rapidly in the early stages of fighting an infection.

Common areas where the lymph nodes can be felt (with the fingers) include:

Groin

Armpit

Neck (there is a chain of lymph nodes on either side of the front of the neck, both sides of the neck, and down each side of the back of the neck)

Under the jaw and chin

Behind the ears

On the back of the head

Lymph nodes can become swollen from infection, inflammatory conditions, an abscess, or cancer. Other causes of enlarged lymph nodes are rare. By far, the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection.

When swelling appears suddenly and is painful, it is usually caused by injury or an infection.Infections that commonly cause swollen lymph nodes include mononucleosis, German measles (rubella), tuberculosis, mumps, ear infection, tonsillitis, an abscessed or impacted tooth, gingivitis (swelling of the gums), mouth sores, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.

May 13 ( day I will never forget).. a guy I was dating and I drank way to much and decided to have anal sex. We did use protection however, not enough lube, wasn’t done correctly and it was painful. So bad that I yelled out and fell off the bed. Anyway, oral was also performed on me anal and vaginal. Flash forward to 3-4 days after that. I was in the most intense pain I had ever felt. I went to a gyn she tool one look and said it looks like herpes. She swabbed me . 2 days after that, yes it’s HSV1 . I was still in pain, irritated anal area and vaginal area and It was unbearable.  today, I still have irritation and itchy and when I pass a bowel i’m in pain and the itch is crazy.     When I first was diagnoses the gyn gave me valtrex which I did not take bc I was in so much pain I could not move for 2 days.  Groin lymphs were swollen I had fever , tired etc.  I am wondering if I had taken the valtrex would it have kinda liked stopped the virus in it’s tracks enough to reproduce? Do people see a correlation between no more outbreaks and immediate initial valtrex  use ? I am 43, I never thought this wound happen as I am not a promiscuous person, I hardly date and I always use protection when I do have intercouse , have yearly std tests. I’m just so sad that i’m at this point right now . I’m trying not to get depressed but this is making my body feel miserable. I’m an avid runner and biker and mom of two teens. I feel like my life as I knew is over. I want to feel better already.
