My fears were confirmed!

I have Herpes. :( My husband has been having symptoms on and off for 3 years...I have NEVER had not one symptom. I had blood work done for Herpes last week, and the doctor called to confirm a positive result :( I suspected it so im not in shock, but it still is depressing and hurts to think about.

We have a 19 month old son, and he is my biggest worry. I hope my husband and I do not transfer the virus on to him. Im scared to death! I also want to have more children, and im hoping that this wont be a major problem.

I have learned sooo much about this virus from this site and it has been such a big help to me. I now understand how this virus works and how it spreads, and I now know im not alone. I didnt realize how many people really do have this virus, and that you dont have to be "dirty" to get it.

I have a question for ladies with the virus: If you experience any vaginal discharge, what is it like (color/consistency)?

Thanks Everyone!

i had discharge during my ob, that was like puss, not like normal discharge- it was more like yellow/cream tinted, very runny consistancy, i figure its from the sores ozzing. as the sores went away the discharge slowly went away aswell.

its common to have yeast during a outbreak as well, and have that yeast infection discharge- kind of clumpy.

Thanks for the response! I have a VERY PAINFUL Bartholin's Abscess right now that is making it hard for me to walk and sit....so I am going to my gyn tomorrow for that issue. Im having a white, milky discharge and didnt know if it was from my cyst, or bacterial vaginosis. Its not clumpy or any other color than white/light grey. It also doesnt have an odor. I have around 25 written questions for my gyn tommorrow so hopefully I will get more answers :) Thanks for your advice!

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Hopefully you won't experience many active ob's.

I've had a discharge on two occasions that is herpes related. It is similar to a yeast infection in that it is itchy, the skin gets red and inflamed and it has an almost gritty consistency as if the discharge contains tiny fragments of my skin that appears to be peeling internally. It is creamy white. No bad odor or discoloration. It goes away on its own in less than 36 hours but the itching and redness lasts longer.

Re: Your son.

You just need to practice common good hygiene. Wash your hands each and every time you use the bathroom. If you happen to scratch your genitals for any reason be sure to wash your hands. Make sure to place your soiled panties in the hamper where your son won't be getting to them. If you use a washcloth to clean your genitals make sure to use it only once and launder it. This virus cannot live very long outside the body or in a dry place. Clorox works well to kill it on surfaces.

You can use hand sanitizers like Purell if you like to keep your hands sanitized. Not a bad idea when diapering baby anyways.

You will want to be aware that performing oral sex on your husband can cause you to contract hsv orally and if you get a coldsore you do not want to kiss your son when they are active or if you experience tingling sensations on your lips which may indicate a coldsore is coming on. We'll cross our fingers that you never have to deal with this one.

Thanks for the advice! Your discharge does sound similar to what I have been experiencing, yet with no sores. The irritation that I am experiencing is from my cyst so it makes is so confusing!

Its so funny you mention using Purell after diaper changes, because I have a HUGE bottle of it on his changing table that I use every day. I have been using it even before I thought Herpes was a problem. My son got extremely sick from daycare, and had double lung pneumonia....so using the Purell was a comfort for my husband and I when touching him, hoping not to have any bacteria on our skin and could make him get sick again. We also have a small bottle of it in every bathroom and we both wash our hands and use the Purell right after washing. I do plan on using cleaners like Lysol, and Clorox to make sure that everything stays clean (its so hard with a toddler..LOL).

I have come to accept that this is what we have, and my husband and I just have to deal with it the best possible way we know how. I cried for a good hour upon finding out the news, but when I really thought about the situation, and the fact I cant change anything, I came to my senses and realized it wasnt worth it.

I actually love this forum, and love the support and information that everyone provides. Just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone again :)

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.
