Please help me interpret this

i recently had an exam to get tested for all stds- i didn't have any symptoms of anything, but i did have unprotected sex with someone who i didn't entirely trust after the face, and i wanted to be safe. my results came back and i was negative for all stds except equivocal for HSV2 (not HSV1). i don't know what this means, but i'm terrified. i'm an extremely self conscious person as it is, and would rather abstain the rest of my life than have to tell anyone about it. i feel really alone.

the doctor asked if i had any outbreaks, and i said no. but there is one thing i am concerned about: i'm prone to rashes on my butt (for years). they usually occur where my thigh meets my butt and are manifested as an inflamed area with sort of scattered small pimples. recently, i noticed that this rash had extended down my thigh on both legs and on my inner thigh. it looks the same as all my previous rashes but more extensive- and now i'm really paranoid about whether that is an outbreak or not. please,any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I wish I could give you the answer you're looking for.

a blood test can tell you if you've been exposed to hsv but it can't tell you where. The only way to know where the infection resides is to have had a physical manifestation of symptoms in a particular location. Since hsv 1 and hsv 2 are not limited to either the mouth or the genitals they can be anywhere on your body.

Based on your admission of the rash I would be inclined to believe that this is a herpes infection but without a swab test of the infected area this is theory.

I have hsv. I have those same symptoms and the antiviral medications made it go away for a time so I am certain that is the origin of that rash in my case.

My advice is to have the rash swabbed and cultured and find out if it is hsv.
