Newly Diagnosed....Kind of

So this all started on my sisters birthday in April. We went out drinking with friends and were all extremely intoxicated. Too drunk to drive home we took a cab with some other friends and crashed at one of their places. Long story short, I went to sleep in a room alone.....I woke up the next morning in my friends bed. I don't remember much, just saying please use a condom. I felt completely taken advantage of the next day. But that doesn't matter because nothing I can do can take back that night.....

When I woke up my vaginal area felt sore (I'm assuming because I was not lubricated) and my bum was a bit sore as well. I developed what I thought was a UTI 2 days later and 2 days after that I went to the Doc. and they tested my urine and confirmed it was a UTI. I never felt any burning or anything like that, just the constant urge to urinate as well as a little pressure at the end of urination. Anyways, I took some antibiotics and it went away. About 5 or 6 weeks later my boyfriend and I had intercourse and I had forgotten that I had a tampon in (gross I know). The next day the area right below the entrace to the vagina was swollen (which I attributed to the tampon being left in during intercourse) and sore to the touch.....2 days later I noticed sores. I never noticed the blisters usually associated with the infection, just open sores, one or two. They weren't painful at all. But I knew it was herpes.

I went to the Doc. because my first thought was herpes. She did a visual inspection 2 days after I first noticed the sores and said that it wasn't herpes, that it didn't look like it, and that it would have been very painful for me to have her touch the sores if it was. She didn't take a sample which now after doing all of this research about how the sample is the best method if taken soon after the appearance of lesions makes me a little angry. Anyways, I was crying and she said that she would do a blood test to make sure if that would make me feel better. The blood test was taken 6-7 weeks after possible exposure. Blood test came back positive for HSV 1 (my boyfriend has cold sores, and yes I know that can be transmitted to the genitals but due to the experience I had on my sisters birthday I assumed it would be HSV 2), but negative for HSV 2. I was relieved, but confused, I had most of the sypmtoms including swollen lymph nodes. I asked again if she was sure and she said that it was probablly just a reaction to the new body wash that I had started to use and all of the other factors that had occured (i.e. the tampon) that it was nothing to worry about.

About a month later I had a gyn. appt. and told my gyn the symptoms and he said from the symptoms I described that he thought it was herpes and immediately placed me on Valtrex (3 months worth). All at once I felt a weight lifted off of my shoulders (because I just knew that I had it and felt like a crazy person) and a crushing pain in my heart. I knew that I had it and didn't know why my family practitioner would have told me I didn't have it. My gyn. recommended that I get tested again and I'm going next week. I wanted to make sure that it that it's been long enough after the outbreak for antibodies to have shown up for HSV 2. My boyfriend has been very supportive, but I'm still just in denial. We've only had vaginal sex once since May. I just feel so dirty and angry at the person who took advantage of me. I'm getting better with dealing, but sometimes I just breakdown.

I'm sorry this was so long....thanks for listening/reading.

it was wrong for that person to have taken advantage of you. you have every right to be upset about that.

with the incident in question aside.

has your bf ever performed oral sex on you? he has oral herpes coldsores and this could cause you to become infected genitally (it would still be hsv 1 but just genital). if you kiss him and he has it you could become infected orally. if you've performed oral sex on him he could get a genital infection if you've been infected orally and this could spread it to you genitally.

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.
