I just found out last week that I have contracted the genital herpes type 1 virus. I am devistated and confused. I have only had unprotected sex with one person in 6 years. I noticed some pain about 2 to 3 days after having unprotected sex with him. But the doctor said I could have also had this for years so now I am worried that I may have given it to him. I am afraid to tell him and don't even know how to bring it up. Can someone help me?

Hi..

You care about him right? Don't worry, you are already strong enough to tell him... caring gives you the power to do it.

This may not be the practical answer, but I believe you just have to bring it up and tell him and talk to him in your own way...

Don't worry... if he cares about you as much as you care about him, he will listen, and try to find out the truth with you. OK? Don't worry. <smile>

At this point, you don't know if you already gave it to him, or maybe he gave it to you... you don't know anything yet. Besides, you can get herpes virus even when you have protected sex (condom).

The fact is, now, you have HSV1. And it can be transmitted.

You just have to find out if he already have the virus or not.. if he doesn't, then you guys can talk and study about how to prevent to give him the virus...

There are lots of information about herpes online. And there is an article in this forum which will give you the entire view of herpes. It's EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS article 2 final, written by Richard...

Study as much as you can, so that you will know, it's not that horrible thing as you might think right now...

You don't have to be scared or ashamed of anything.

Just be honest, and be brave. <smile>

Best wishes..

Faith

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
