Symptoms: Fever, back pain, etc... when will they go away?

I was diagnosed last Wednesday (Aug 1), but my outbreak started two and half weeks ago (July 25)... I had horrible symptoms... the whole gammat really. The sores were the least of it b/c they were so few, but peeing was awful. Sore throat, fever, cramping type pain...

My sores have gone away, though there is still some itchiness that I wonder how long will last?

But my main question is about fever and backaches... the fever isn't constant, and is always below 100, but I'm still concerned about it... is it just my body fighting the virus? And if so, when should I expect it to end?

I also have a relatively constant dull ache in my lower back... is that also my body fighting the virus??

Just needing some advice to ease my mind... it's such a mental struggle these days.

It's gonna get better.

I was diagnosed back just before Memorial Day. The back pain/fever etc. that you're describing should subside when you're through your inital outbreak.

I had total body involvement when I got my first OB. Fever, chills, nausea, aches, itchiness...you name it. And I probably had a reoccurance shortly after, because it seemed like it was nearly a month before I was feeling completely "normal" again.

However I can speak from experience that it does get much better. I have had one OB since my initial (stress induced I'm sure) and I only had minor discomfort with that one. A mild headache (no fever) and some itchy feelings a little achy.

Keep your head up...it's gonna get better!

I'm wondering too when the pain when subside, it's not as bad as it was, it gets worse at about the same time each month, but i don't get an outbreak, during the same time each month i get the body aches, back pain, muscle aches, thoart feels funny, nausea, etc. bad thing is i have a hard time dealing with stress, get stressed easily, so i be in pain for almost a week, then try to calm myself mentally, cuz emotionially when i'm down then that's when the herpes acts up. I heard your body starts to get use to having the virus after a certain amount of time, i heard years but not for sure.

hormones definitely affect the bodies ability to fight the virus. Unfortunately some women get cyclic OBs or symptoms. Even though you aren't getting a full-fledged OB, the virus can still act up and make you crazy. Higher progesterone levels are associated with a weakened response to H, and that occurs a little before your cycle starts...

It is supposed to get better over time...

Have you tried anything to help control the virus?

I've found the worst thing is the acheing in my legs... I can't walk more than 50 yards without my legs shaking and they feel like I've just run a marathon... thought I was the only person suffering from other symptoms... I think the soreness has improved after three days on the anti virals but the aches seem to have got worse. feeling a bit lonely and miserable this evening. this site is a huge help...

I sympathize

The soreness in the legs and back is always the worst for me, and have occurred pretty much once a month since my first outbreak. I'll get those with the flu-like stuff without lesions, and I'll run a low-grade fever. If you can get your doctor to prescribe Ultram, it's very helpful (and non-narcotic! it acts only on the nerves, which is where the attack is occurring) and there is a generic form of it that is very cheap. The only problem with the Ultram is that it makes you very nauseous--keep ginger or peppermint handy and eat constantly while taking it, as well as a good-size snack prior to taking it. (I've found Tums and Pepto are not very effective in dealing with the nausea.)

My first outbreak, I was in Disneyland. Walking. All day. I literally cried because my legs and heels hurt so badly and nothing helped. The subsequent issues I've had have only lasted a few days, but that first time was three weeks easily, and then another three weeks before I felt 100% again. Hold on, it will get better. And no other outbreak will be this bad.

getting worse...

feeling a bit like I'm back to square one again... flu symptoms have almost gone (on day 7 on meds) but as yet no real relief from the sores. I also appear to have them all over my hands now too! this is something I've had for years on and off (although never as sever as this, it's all over my hands)and always been told was exema however looking at them again it looks extreemly likely that its one and the same at what I've een suffering from down below.... Could I have passed it on to myself without knowing. off to the doctor again in a bit anyhow to try and combat this latest issue... Just having hrrific images of being covered in the bloody things from head to toe. not to mention the pain. Thought it was all so simple... Take the meds and it'll go away then take them again next time. Not take the meds and it gets worse... HELP...

i used to get all those pains all the time - ive had it since 2005 and dont get any symptoms at all now.

even when i do get an OB is gone in a few days.

time is a healer. - the body just needs time to learnabout the invaders and how to counter-act them.

  • 2 weeks later...

this is a pain in the rear, I just got finished from having my period. and my symptoms haven't improved, lower back ache, sore thoart, body aches, feeling esxhausted, light headed, then comes in the panic attacks, trying to figure out if i have something more than just a reaction to the herpes virus. but i think it's from being kind of depressed, but i'm not as depressed as i usually get (really down in the dumps), but still all this week for the past 4 days, I been feeling exhausted, leg aches, and lower back pain. Lord help me, I can't take this much longer:x

Mulatta,

Are you taking anything for your H? Vitamins, supplements, anti-virals?

For me personally, my mood was terrible until I started to feel better physically. I would just start crying when I found a new bump (I had chronic OBs), and the constant aching & fatigue made me feel like I would never be normal again. If you are really having a hard time, consider some type of treatment, and if you are already taking something, maybe change things up a bit.

Hang in there...

https://imgur.com/a/cVi8yJY 2 weeks ago I had unprotected oral sex. Few days later I wake up with a stinging sensation in my urethra. I don't have any blisters, lesions or redness, my penis looks completely normal from the outside, but the stinging in my urethra is always there. Urinating doesn't make the pain worse. From the research I've done and how my body feels I'm pretty sure I caught genital hsv1. To make matters worse I think I transmitted it to my eyelid by touching my infected penis and then my eyelid which did develop a blister. Can anyone look at my lower eyelid and tell me if it looks anything like herpes?  I forgot to add that the blister is painless, but my eye is a bit watery. Other than that it's fine and my eyesight is good. Considering how this all developed in a matter of a week after I had unprotected sex it can't be much else than herpes..

Hey I see that they also sell the pill form in 100 mg and 500 mg form. Do you think this is as affective? They have the regular and extract version of the pill. Which would you think is the right one to get? And how many pills per day to get the same effect of say 16 seeds?

I had an IGG test  and the ranges were out of range and high  HSV 1 was 42 and HSV 2 was 19 so I guess it was accurate but the problem now is I can't figure out when or who I got it from. In 2018 to 2019 when I was with my ex I was STD tested but not sure if herpes was included but my ex was supposed to get tested but refused. I experienced some trauma with him and didn't date until a year and a half later so I'm confused. The guy I dated after the ex who didn't want to be tested I told them a week ago about my results he was trying to be there for me and understanding,I told him to get tested but to request a herpes blood test , because he had no noticeable lesions or bumps ever is what he said and I never noticed any on him now he has shut down all his social media and I can't reach him. Hoping he's okay, I feel bad because in 2018 I did have what I was told it was an abrasion that tingled but at my doctor the day I was tested they told me it wasn't herpes but I think it was only a visible diagnosis. I keep having it reoccur from time to time

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.
