PCR swab without lesions

Hi everyone I'm hoping for clarification on pcr swabs.I have had reoccurring irritation on penis ( red skin, very tiny bumps that don't seem to contain fluid) on and off for over a year now. I also have had nerve pain in legs, itch and tingling on thighs and painful urination all these come and go. This all started 3 weeks after my first( and last) sex in over a year.It is important to note that I have gotten cold sores for many years so I am hsv1 positive. Since my first episode of symptoms I have tested igg specific 3 times, the last time was 9 months post exposure. The results always said positive for hsv1 and neg. for hsv2. I also had western blot done a full year after exposure ,also said pos.for hsv1, negative for hsv2.Again, I fully expected the positive for hsv1 because of my cold sore history. I had a phone consult with a Doctor from Westoverheights .Based on my neg. blood tests, lack of true lesions, and history of cold sores she told me she does not think I have genital hsv.I really want an answer to my symptoms so I can move forward. Can anyone tell me if pcr swabs will work if my skin is just irritated and perhaps with tiny bumps but no fluid is present?Thank you very much.

My understanding is a skin scrape can be tested, maybe ask Moderator WilsonAus, he has much more knowledge then me. Doctors can be wrong too. Have you seen a dermatologist and urologist? They maybe able to shed some light on some of these issues.

Hi, I believe you are saying that I could have hsv1 genital as well as oral? I don't disagree with that but the doctors say because I had oral hsv1 for so long that I would not contract it genitally years later.I'm not so sure I agree with them.I haven't contacted a dermatologist yet that sounds like s good idea. Thanks.

Well my confidence in doctor's abilities have lessened. Our best infectious disease doctor who is also immunology and allergist professional said since I had No other outbreaks after initial (23yrs ago a few yrs back) , this intelligent man said to me, face to face, " your herpes has died, your cured"! Well that would have been nice but I was in the middle of my 2nd outbreak ever. So you see in my best Acesheart voice, I feel they don't investigate the problems, just guess at it at best ;) ! I've had over 20 doctors of all specialty' s and not many have EVER been 50% good at what they guess is going on in my body. I get another doctor when I feel the current one has screwed up or just given up in trying to find out what is causing troubles at the particular time. So certainly, get to another doctor until you find one who will listen.

If your symptoms are herpes in the genital area, and you only TEST positive for h1, doesn't take a degree to think perhaps you could be a Rare, h1 orally and h1 genitally..it's just my opinion honey, but in my 28 (almost) years with Ghsv 2, I've heard some whale stories from "specialty doctor's" , I just get another and another, until my problems get resolutions. Take care and please keep me posted. Hugs Aces xo

Hi, yes could be rare hsv1 in both or could be rare hsv2 that WB won't detect. That's one reason I want to swab.I agree also about doctors especially when things aren't so obvious they seem to dismiss you.Wasn't surprised I got this reaction from my local doctors but was expecting at least some concern from Westover heights that my symptoms could be herpes.

Just keep looking until you feel comfortable with what you are being told. I would see as many as 2 different doctor's a day or week, but it's been 28 yrs almost for me and I don't have outbreaks like my friends here do. I've always been odd ball , lol. I'd think you lean more towards h1 both locations, but I'm not a doctor. But if you are up for it, get a skin scrape, I hear it's uncomfortable, but well worth that peace of mind. :itllbeok: Aces xo

It is already a hassle getting started with making it.  I end up with more questions than I can find answers for, but stumble on...  I am retired so feel like my job is (finally) taking care of myself.  I have had few health issues, generally healthy--except for the H bomb.  If i have to make liposomal 2x a week, i dont think it will be a big deal.  The big deal is getting the equipment and getting started i think.  I make kombucha, which is sort of like having a not-very-demanding pet.  I dont mind doing this kind of stuff.  But will probably keep liposomal capsules or packets on hand for times when its inconvenient to make it. I cant believe u r sucking down 6 g of AA at a time!  The most i drink with AA is 2 g at a time.  I am currently taking 4 g AA and 9 g liposomal C in caps/packets. The protocol evolves.  I am so thrilled to not have BO's that i dont care what i have to do. They ruined my life.  I am glad u r finally getting good results with your fight against H.  Have u tried drinking the AA thru a straw with the straw toward the back of your mouth to avoid teeth?  I would think baking soda and water swished around in your mouth after drinking the AA would neutralize any remaining acid.  My teeth have pretty strong enamel, so i dont worry about it (but dont do 6 g AA at a time).  If u r worried about acid erroding tooth enamel, why arent u worried about 6 g of AA at a time going down the soft tissues of your esophagus and onward?  Im not saying its wrong, just wondering.
    • Not sure what I’ve got
Additionally to the above and to answer you question more precisely, it had been 12 days (probably more) before I started to get itchy (I could swear the rash started as insect bites, each very distinct - I am in a hostel so there is a chance it was bedbugs). Before that it had been a week or two.  I also had been cycling intensely in 35 plus degree heat (temps were around 38 degrees today. And the spot where the rash showed up is the exacts spot where my upper thigh rubs the seat. Finally, my clothes were washed by a laundry service, and the T-shirt I was wearing that was washed in the same load had been irritating my skin.

@Sabayou have no need to be concerned with genital herpes. Your symptoms are not those of herpes.  If you have concerns, seek out the type specific HSV testing.

Yes, really would be an improvement not have to Carry the burden of transmission...many people are researching cures and treatments, but sadly everything takes too much time
