Finally...

My doctor has finally agreed to send me to get the blood test. He did a culture swab that came back negative, so now I had too many questions as to if I still have it or not. He finally said He would send me so I can have clear answers. My questions is.. how long will it take to get the results usually? Do I have to ask for a copy or will I already get them? He is sending me to a labcorp place to have it done.... I am tired of waiting for answers. I haven't had another ob since the first one but having this hanging over my head with the negative results while he is saying I do in fact have it based on what He saw, it's too much. What am I looking for on this test anyway? Also.. is there a chance this come back negative and I still have it too or will I be able to finally get a certain answer?

Thanks for any help...

Find out what kind of test the doctor is sending you for. My BF got both and IgG and an IgM. I have heard IgM are useless...so get an IgG. The thing is this test tests for antibodies in the blood so I have read you want to wait at least 12 weeks after suspected exposure to get the test to give your body time to produce antibodies..otherwise you will get a false negative. The test should only take a couple of days for results. If your doctor does not give you a copy....just ask for one...I would suggest having a copy regardless if it is negative or positive.

Thanks for the update, I was following this thread as well....So I got tested two weeks after exposure and they did the IgG test and tested positive for HSV1 is what they called and told me. I asked them to mail me a copy of the results too. You think it was too soon? My doctor did mention coming back in 6 weeks as well.

According to what I have read it may take 8-12weeks for the body to get antibodies to the virus. I would suggest waiting 8-10 weeks and getting retested just to be sure.

Thanks will do. I was hoping this test would just give me peace of mind but I think you are right it might be too early to tell.

Okay so I got my results. I am waiting for them to mail me a copy of them. My doctor talked to me over the phone and said I have HSV1 as my numbers were high. He said my number for HSV2 were normal and showed no indication that I had it. So it seems I have hsv1 in my genital area.

What does this all mean? I understand the basics I believe. But what does this mean as far as dating and sexual partners. Is it still easy to contract? Will I have more obs? Do I have to tell people I have this before being sexual?

Are you sure you never tested positive for HSV1 in the past? Have you ever tested for HSV prior to this incident?

A high HSV1 reading at 5-6 weeks is a tad odd to me. That would indicate a long-term infection if the values were really high meaning you most likely had HSV1 since your youth.

Ever have a cold sore? What was your OB like?

I would retest in 12-16 weeks for confirmation on HSV2 tho to completely rule it out. You're taking the tests too early IMHO.

No I've never tested, just going off what my doctor was telling me. I'm confused by it all because I never had an ob before. Had sex and three days later I had an ob. We never did oral.... so I'm just confused.

Never had a cold sore. The outbreak was bad in my opinion but I never had one. I had Maybe 9 sores on my genital area.. hard to pee too. OK. I will call and test again in a 12 weeks.

So my story is like yours too so I think you might be okay..... I just got my results in the mail too. I had my first vaginal OB about 4 weeks ago about 3 days after sex it started. I was tested back in April for EVERYTHING and all negative.

The term "high" could have several meanings. The lab results they sent me help clarify. I was only positive for HSV1 so far and it tells you the number breakout down like xx<xx it means negative if xx>xx positive. I see both the IgG and IgM I am glad I had them mail me a copy so I could see clearly what they were referring too. I have NEVER had a cold sore or anything of this sort.

I was able to sign a document at the lab and get my results myself. At this point i am tired of the doctors and whatever i can do not to have to call his office i will do it.

You have the results for your test for EVERYTHING? I also thought i was being checked for everything for years but herpes was never included unless it was asked for by name specifically.

To the orginal post you need to retest in a couple of months to rule out HSV2 definitively but you're probably right about it being hsv1 genitally. 2 weeks is WAY too early for an IgG to show so it's possible it has been latent for awhile, or that you just contracted hsv1 genitally recently but have had it orally for awhile, or worst case scenario you recently contracted 2 as well and no antibodies yet. I'd wait until your at a 4 to 6 month mark to retest to be sure. Try not to sweat it in the meantime this sht is what it is

Thanks Alice, yes my doctor is great they test for all STD's as a standard panel and I was clear in April including HSV. My boyfriend got tested but his standard panel did not include HSV.......hence the exposure to me. Thanks for the heads up, yeah I will go back in a few months and get tested. Thank you. Glad my BF has been supportive and helpful through the process too. IT does suck and I am traumatized still.....but we must go on.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.

I did notice they stoped selling the one I bought it was a 7 panel test for 7 std but now they got the 6 panel and hsv is not on it but they do collect blood and pee and you send in to a laboratory
