really suffering here... only been diagnosed today and am struggling to walk my glands are so swollen (still I guess that means my immune system is trying to kick some ass) and I'm not even going to start on finding a position to sit in comfortably or the issues involved with going to the bathroom. standing in the shower is good but I cant do that till its gone I'd wash myself away.. ha ha. Anyone got any good tips to ease the pain at all.. cold teabags I read somewhere but I'm not convinced. Walking like john wayne at the moment... Stupidly didn't ask the doctor about relieving symptoms, was too spaced out at the time, just took the antivirals and went home... feling a bit down now.

yep...i feel your pain...for almost 4 weeks now. cold compress. that helped me. legs wide open with an nice frosty icepack placed on me privates with a clean cloth. started taking a bunch of vitamens (a new forever regamine) a super Bcomplex, a big vit C, lysine, a multi, echanacia, and Neem leaves...often with 600mg of Advil...for the pain...mostly at night.

you just have to wait it out and make sure you get plenty of sleep so your body can combat the little buggers. I have had the luxury of taking naps everyday. today i'm finally felling a bit better. and make sure your eating well. i wasn't and i have a feeling that it really contributed to this first most annoying OB. it really threw a monkey wrench into my summer plans, not to mention my future sex plans. so i've taken a personal little vow of celibacy for a while.

brings new meaning to "chilling out".

hope this helps and that you feel better soon!

thank you loads.... ice pack was a bit of a relief and pain killers seem to be easing the fluey symptoms a bit.

My head just keeps going from 'it's only a virus, it might hurt but it won't kill me' to 'crying and feeling like it's the end of the world and everythig will be different from now on' I'm just moaning really. I've had more painfull things except usually I go round telling everyone and complaining about it, don't really feel I can shout this from the rooftops although maybe if more people did it wouldn't have be such an emotional when they find out they've got it.

anyway going to enjoy a couple of days napping and mindless tv I think. Might even go and shout about it from the rooftops! I'm sure once I'd shouted it to a few hundred people through a mega phone I'd feel much better.

'Hello pleased to meet you, I've got the herp, how are you today'

'hows things? I appologize for walking like a cowboy, my herpes is flaring up!)

'Good morning world I would like to announce that have aquired herpes!

yay... feel better already... well a bit.

LOL! Those are great.

Just wanted to add to the good advice that's already been given, that wetting your parts before you go to the bathroom helps a lot... however you do that... whether it's going in the shower, or dousing yourself over the toilet, water will help dilute the urine and make going tolerable. If the pain isn't so bad that you can stand not having an icepack, you can also air yourself out while you are resting (all the moistness down there makes the healing take longer, unfortunately for us girls).

Get some Aveeno oatmeal baths. That really helped me! When I took the antivirals it didn't get any worse from that point on, but it still took a few days to heal. I took an oatmeal bath before bed every night, dried off with a cool hair dryer and put iodine or peroxide on the sores. The iodine stung a little but it helped to dry them up. Also some advil before bed helped me sleep. Some wet toilet paper over the sores while peeing helps too. Hope you're feeling better soon.

stopping the pain

Salt baths, A&D ointment, and tylenol pm at night. I'm just getting over my first ob and was pretty much on constant pain killers. I was lucky enough to get a 4 day mini vacation from work by pure chance so I spent those four days sleeping, crying and to be honest smoking weed. I dunno if the smoking helps the pain, but it helped me freak out less. it hurt like a bitch esp. since I get sores internally too. I was lucky that going to the bathroom didnt hurt so much, but it was still sore. I hope you feel better.

cheers for all the good advice.... feeling a little better now although I think the worst thing now it my legs feel like they've run a marathon... anyone else suffer from that? they ache in a really horid way. Also I've developed some very uncomfortable sores the tops of my legs which make sitting down hard... Really wanted to tell some one about it yesterday so phoned up my friend who's HIV +ve and he made me feel much better... just laughed at me and said his sisters got it too and told me lots of funny stories about all the things he's had... Also my mum (obviously with the best intentions) informed me that my dad had genital warts, really didn't need to know that but hey... all is good.

How do you spell relief?

You got some really good suggestions already.

I used to sit on the "thrown" for long periods of time...it was just the most comfortable place to be the first week or so.

I tried to keep dry all the time...legs up with fan on... It may not be sanitary , but it was comfortable!

DON'T WEAR tight clothing...dresses for now or loose pant is best.

Cheer up, this doesn't last long. Be strong and after attending to H, focus your mind on other things. No sense in dwelling, right?

To be quite honest marijuana paralyzes the immune system even worse then alcohol. I had a cold once and smoked twice a day and it never went away I had the same cold for like 3 weeks cause my immune system couldn't fight it off. I finally quit smoking and it went away 3 days later. Haven't really smoked since ether.

Alcohol has been known to do the same in large amounts so be careful. Outbreaks might feel better while high and the emotional stress may be reduced but you will prolly have it double the time.

Hello "FeelingLost".... your fears and concerns are understandable but, nothing you've described regarding the sexual encounter would cause you to contract herpes.... further, your symptoms are not herpes related.  Best of all, your doctor is correct, your results don't show any herpes here.  You can relax.... definitely have your GP take a look at things and see what might be causing the symptoms but, again, none of them are typical herpes related.  I wish you the best in terms of talking to your wife about this encounter.... hopefully she will understand and you both can work through this amicably.  We all make mistakes.... be careful not to beat yourself up too hard over this.... you can become so racked with guilt that you start imagining physical symptoms.  Best of luck.... and take care..... come back to the site if you have questions.

Hi (I’m really scared and feel really disappointed in myself and worried about my future), I had oral sex with a condom almost 3 weeks ago and a massage parlor. I also received a hand job at the same time prior to putting a condom on, also may have rubbed my penis on her back a little. Did not touch her genitals I don’t recall any sores on her back. After the event she handed me a pice of TP and after I took off the condom I wiped my penis head to clear away the excess ejaculation…this is where I suspect I got infected, she had just gone pee and wiped and maybe touched a sore or something and then I got it on my penis from the tp? Idk. I’m just flailing.   After this I’ve had discomfort on the skin below the head of my penis and 4 bumps for 2 weeks now, the bumps don’t seem to have changed in size. I also had frequent urination for about a week and have had dull pain in my groin on and off. I also have some pins and needles on the sides of my abdomen/trunk that get worse when I go out in the heat or get dehydrated. I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping, likely due to guilt and shame and worry about the future.   so I got one test done at 10 days from the event (idk know if this can tell me anything… the doctor assured me it was 100% correct and I don’t have herpes. I was not physically examined). I got a full panel std. neg for everything. HSV-1 results: IgG 0.3 / HSV-2 IgG 0.9 hsv-1 IgM = 2.2 hsv-2 IgM = 3.0 (Reference V. Negative: Less than 9.0 Borderline: 9.0 to 11.0 Positive: Greater than 11.0) I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday, hoping he can help. Will likely go to a std testing service tomorrow to see if I can get in an antiviral proactively. Plan to get tested again this week.

May 13 ( day I will never forget).. a guy I was dating and I drank way to much and decided to have anal sex. We did use protection however, not enough lube, wasn’t done correctly and it was painful. So bad that I yelled out and fell off the bed. Anyway, oral was also performed on me anal and vaginal. Flash forward to 3-4 days after that. I was in the most intense pain I had ever felt. I went to a gyn she tool one look and said it looks like herpes. She swabbed me . 2 days after that, yes it’s HSV1 . I was still in pain, irritated anal area and vaginal area and It was unbearable.  today, I still have irritation and itchy and when I pass a bowel i’m in pain and the itch is crazy.     When I first was diagnoses the gyn gave me valtrex which I did not take bc I was in so much pain I could not move for 2 days.  Groin lymphs were swollen I had fever , tired etc.  I am wondering if I had taken the valtrex would it have kinda liked stopped the virus in it’s tracks enough to reproduce? Do people see a correlation between no more outbreaks and immediate initial valtrex  use ? I am 43, I never thought this wound happen as I am not a promiscuous person, I hardly date and I always use protection when I do have intercouse , have yearly std tests. I’m just so sad that i’m at this point right now . I’m trying not to get depressed but this is making my body feel miserable. I’m an avid runner and biker and mom of two teens. I feel like my life as I knew is over. I want to feel better already.
