Spreading through tear

Hi, i have had hsv2 for 3 years now and have had pretty much no symptoms. This concerns me because i don't know if i am experiencing a mild outbreak at any given time, and unaware of it.

I was originally diagnosed through a swab taken from a vaginal tear, about 4 days after having sex. The swab tested positive for hsv2. My concern at the time was a profuse watery discharge. The tear i just assumed was from having sex. Since my diognosis, I have never experienced blister type symptoms. I still take valaciclovir usually every day to reduce risk of viral shedding.

Even before contracting hsv i occasionally would experience vaginal tearing after sex, if it had been a while since intercourse. My question is, i am worried that if i get the vaginal tearing from intercourse now, is this always going to be infectious? I have just started having sex with a new partner (told him about the condition), and had absolutely no signs of an OB prior to sex. Immediately after sex i felt some slight stinging near the vagina/anus area, typical tearing from intercourse. Is this going to infect him?

Appreciate any help.

Hi there, welcome to the website.

You are most contagious the first year you have this virus and since you are on daily antivirals, the risk of transmission is very low. Here is a link to an article on transmission. Read it and you should feel better:

Good luck!

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
