Positive Culture - Negative IgG

Hi. I was sure i had my outbreak in February, but an IgG done on June 16 showed negative for both HSV 1 and 2. The only other time i had any way to transmit it was on may 28 or 29. ob by june 1, started to run a temp. which never happened in feb. This negative result would indicate i was not infected in feb? Would those 4 months certainly be time to show + on this test? I am on antivirals now but was not in feb. I was so sure an incident in feb was my first outbreak, i still am thinking it really was. If that's the case, how can anyone use this test? wtf. That's why they never include it because its meaningless? Unfortunately my initial dx was by swab and it was not typed. I was hoping to type it.

Does anyone have an idea of how much longer i should wait to get another one? I wouldn't even get one but i think knowing the type would be helpful. My partners should get a test ? I am super confused. they are getting tested but ? why; both say zero symptoms.

My provider is an idiot and im trying to change. I tried an infectious disease guy but he requires a referral.

Im just struggling along here but this test is really confusing.

You'll need to assume then that infection occurred on 28/29 May. You're sure it was an IgG on 16 June, can you provide the results on here?

Everyone is different... It can take a few weeks to up to 6 months to build antibodies...

I picked up my lab reports from the lab.

On the blood test: Test Name: HSV type s1/2 AB IgG

both Type 1 and 2 say negative, reference range: negative

test was performed at the Mayo clinic Rochester MN

It gives no reference range or quantity.

I got a copy of the vaginal culture also from June 3. does isolated mean positive i assume? Anyone interpret any of this for me? Yes, i had bacterial vaginosis also.

RESULT:

Herpes Simples Virus Culture

Source: Vaginal

Result: **Isolated

Reference Range: None Isolated

Critical Value report

Then at the bottom it says:

WET PREP

Specimen wet prep

wbc wet prep Moderate

RBC Wet Prep None seen

Epithelial cells wet prep many

Trichomonas wet prep none seen

Clue Cells, Wet prep Present

Yeast, wet prep none seen

Bacteria, wet prep many

Sometimes HSV-1 does not come up in testing an estimated 1 in 10 cases. Not likely, but possible.

The explanations in order of probability are:

- you were infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2 late May and will test positive to IgG antibodies usually within 8 weeks of that date

- you were infected with HSV-1 in February and the test is missing the antibodies.

There may be other explanations, but they are quite remote.

Did you receive 'vigorous' oral sex in the days leading up to the outbreaks in February and May? Do either of the partners get oral cold sores?

I did receive oral sex in feb and in may, not sure it was vigorous, certainly not memorable lol ;) and not sure either have cold sores, or are prone to them. They didnt have any visible. It would be a good outcome if it was hsv 1 ... i guess lol. but honestly i have no clue WTF happened or when now and i guess it doesnt matter in the end.

Wow you are funny, thanks, levity is often needed here. You might need to find a guy for which oral sex is an artform!

I think the only thing that matters is type and the implications this has for partners, prevention of transmission etc.

Thanks Wilsonaus. And thanks for the replies/info. I do appreciate all the support here. I think maybe with the new provider I'm getting I will get typed eventually. Meanwhile I'm not looking for anyone. But the two partners in May should get tested because if one is positive, then that's the giver... And we can have sex!

That pretty much sums it up! Well actually there is a pretty good chance they'll both have HSV-1 so you can have sex with both of them! How do you young folk keep this up? lol

Well im not so young--> hehe and neither is one of the partners. If my original theory of my herpes story is correct, i dont really think either of them would have been exposed if my outbreak started on monday and they were thursday and friday prior. Neither reported any symptoms or problems. When does shedding start? It is vigorous sex that triggers my specific lesion. Not all sex because i had some sex in between feb and may and it did not trigger an ob. it was with a condom and no oral sex so i know thats not where it came from.

My next decision for now is whether to keep taking valtrex daily or stop. Im afraid to stop. but i havent taken any today because i needed to get the refill. What to do...

Again not that it matters at this point, but herpes can be contracted regardless of whether a condom is used or not. However they are very effective at reducing male to female transmission.

The best thing you can do is confirm type based on blood test or typing of swab, do not impute it from the results of these two partners as that would not beb conclusive.

Yes only my tests should be used to define me. I'm not for sure they are getting tested. One said he never had a cold sore.

I took the valtrex.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Well thank you I appreciate it

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
