Transmission from lesion on thigh

Hi - I've had herpes for a long time which presents itself anally and not vaginally. I did have 2 labial outbreaks 23 and 28 years ago both occurred in the last trimester of each pregnancy but never since.

I've never had an outbreak on the inside back of thigh... And without any prodromal. I thought it was an ingrown hair or pimple and didn't even think it could be an outbreak till after I'd had sex with my BF (who knows my history of having hsv. I know, foolish and seriously I didn't make the connection it could be an OB.

He had no contact with his penis on the lesion but I'm worried his hand came in contact or his testicles.

Can anyone discuss with me the possibility of transmission directly to his hand or if his testicles made contact with lubricant on my inner thigh but not directly contacting the lesion?

Also would his previous relationship with a girlfriend who had herpes, years ago have offered him any increased protection from hsv ? He did not contract hsv but had unprotected monogamous sex with her and she would refrain from sex if she thought she had an outbreak.

Has your bf ever been tested? He could have it and never have had symptoms. Him having dated someone who had it would not give him any greater protection from getting it from you. Most people who have herpes don't know because they have never been tested and have never had symptoms. So he could have had it even before the last girl he dated.

The longer you have this virus the less you are contagious so while technically he could have gotten it from you from this contact the reality is he probably didn't.

If she shows no signs of an outbreak between 2 - 20 days after this incident then he probably didn't get it from you (or he already has it and doesn't have outbreaks).

Good luck!

Hi JB,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. You would think that

having had GHSV1 and GHSV2 for 30 years, would have given me more understanding of its presentation and submission but yes, high emotions seem to have a way of pushing aside rational thought sometimes.

I got HSV from my then husband who never had a symptom, and held true to that he didn't ever have HSV and years later took a blood test at my request and said it came back negative. My initial OB was the usual with aches body chills and I felt so ill. I know I got it from him but never understood how he 'didn't have it' so I was made to feel like I was crazy for suggesting that. Also because of the lack of support even from my dr. I was not told about or put on acyclovir until 12 years ago. So I am on suppressive meds daily.

Boyfriend gets a blood test for STDs annually and told me he did not have herpes as far as the blood work showed. I did not have any idea that having had HSV for 30+ years made transmission less of a possibility , especially with the my OB location and his recipient contact location (hand and thigh perhaps testicles) not being the usual genital intercourse contact.

I will hope for the best and will be hyper vigilant to examine for any suspect skin eruption in the future since this inner back thigh OB took me by surprise - might be best to be over cautious.

Thanks again

BC

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
