My Mini Milestones

I was officially diagnosed with hsv 2 on June 16th 2015 and it's been a roller coaster for me to way the least. I was so terrified of getting another outbreak so I didn't shave at all for about 5 weeks (that was hard for me)

I wore exam gloves to do everything, take showers, wipe myself after using the washroom, even to put makeup on my face. I was really scared to autoinoculate myself.

So after running out of gloves, instead of buying more, I just decided to take a risk and just wash my hands after and during those activities mentioned above.

Also, 5 weeks into knowing, I decided to trim my pubes really short with some little scissors. It felt great! I felt so much cleaner... and nothing happened.

So then I went on to bigger better things.I shaved! I still am super paranoid about making sure I have a razor strictly dedicated to my arm pits.Another one strictly for just the knees down on my legs, and another strictly for my thighs (shave thighs first) and then I used it to shave my vagina....and again nothing happened! No outbreak and it felt amazing.Almost like the "old me"

I was also terrified that my period would bring on another outbreak. But I got it last week...and nothing happened!

I am so relieved by this.I know it probably doesn't mean much but I have hope that maybe, just maybe, I may not have many outbreaks? Is that possible?

I am also considering stopping my valacyclovir soon just to see what happens.

Not sure why I posted this but I had to tell someone, and I can't tell anyone in real life so I guess it's like my little journal of mini milestones.

Congrats on feeling a little better! I went through similar things. I think over time you see that it's not really going to affect you as much as you thought, and you stop being so scared of everything.

It's hard to say whether or not you will have a lot of outbreaks, but it's more likely to happen earlier on. I think you should go ahead and live your life as you did before H and see if anything actually triggers an ob for you, like you did with shaving. Instead of trying to avoid an outbreak, think of it as trying to figure out what will affect your body and what will not. Once you know, you can try to manage it better.

Best of luck!

Thanks you guys!

Hey November, do you mean that you think I should stop taking antivirals too, to "go ahead and live my life like I did before H"?

I currently don't have a partner so it's as good of a time as any, but...I am scared to stop.

Not even sure why( I don't even like taking meds but I'm scared)

I guess the thing to remember is you can always start taking it again if "something" happens. I was dx june 3, but have had similar issues. Sort of got over everything so I stopped valtrex for a few days, was feeling good! and then i used my magic wand? and well, next day i had a big red itchy bump. I had stopped the valtrex for about three or four days. lol. so i started up again. This ob was much better if one can say that (yes better than my crotch on FIRE for a week!) nothing really hurt, the bump just sort of disappeared after a day or two and a few other blisters formed here and there but for some reason they did not hurt to pee or sit. so in all i would say that ob is over now about a week and a few days later. but im afraid again to stop. im on 500mg 2x. i would like to get to 500 mg 1xsoon and see what happens. I do not have a sex partner right now and looks like I might have to retire the magic wand :( sad and it makes me scared for actual sex...

I stopped shaving too. But then you just get over it. . I'm on my second Ob in over a year. I stopped taking valtrex so I am going to go back on it. I got no OB for s whole year. first year supposed to be the worst. My OB is minor but I been taking lysine alone with my acyclovir. I also got wasted lasted night at a wedding and drink coffee. I was at the beach all the day the night I got an OB. No warning just a bump when I was wiping at like 230 am. I had sex 30 hours prior to that. Maybe was areas catching up to me. My BF and I aren't doing so good. Don't know what the cause is.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.

I did notice they stoped selling the one I bought it was a 7 panel test for 7 std but now they got the 6 panel and hsv is not on it but they do collect blood and pee and you send in to a laboratory
