If you already test positive for HSV-1 and think you've been infected with HSV-2 will the test results show that you have detectable antiobodies for both type 1 and 2? These are my blood test results.

1st time (ELISA TEST)

HSV-1 Ig G type specific 5.60

HSV-2 " 0.26

2nd time about 1.5 months later

HSV-1 7.04

HSV-2 0.08

Both types were positive but according to the doctor and the range below, I'm HSV-2 negative for detectable antibodies. very confusing.

<0.90 Negative for detectable antibodies

0.90 - 1.10 Equivocal

>1.10 Postive-Antibody detected

Could the rise of HSV-1 in the 2nd blood test indicate I'm HSV-2 since blood tests aren't accurate and can't tell the difference.

Has anybody tested positive for both? Feedback please!!! Thank you. :D

Hi,

Seems like Rich isn't here yet today....

I want to help, but I don't know so much about blood test itself...

But I found this passage in www.herpesdiagnosis.com/blood.html

-------- However, there is a good chance that the wrong type of HSV antibody will be diagnosed or that antibodies to HSV-2 will be missed. Patients with previous antibodies to HSV-1 (made in response to oral herpes or "cold sores") who acquire HSV-2 genital herpes are most likely to be misdiagnosed by these tests as "HSV-1 only". Thus, many HSV-2 infections will not be detected by these tests. ------------------

Many other information about blood test is on this page. So check it out adding to information that Concerned about Herpes2 gave you.

I had ELISA myself, but in many information sources say that Western blot is the most accurate one. (but I also heard a case of false result of Western blot....)

Well....

Sorry.. this is all I know.

Best wishes..

Faith

Hey Faith,

How hard is it to get a blood test? Both doctors I have been to do not think that it is necessary etc. I do not live in a big area either.

I am going to a derm next month - first chance I can get in anyway I just want piece of mind. 3 docs have told me it is not herpes but I still think it could be I guess.

I guess... you just have to insist... Cuz I think, you know your body the most..

I don't know where you can go for the test in your area, but.. I think most doctors (dermatologists, gynecologists, urogists) can do the blood test for you....

I would call doctors' offices on yellow pages and find out what kind of test they provide.. They can't refuse, as long as you're paying for it.

I had ELISA at a dermatology.

Best wishes...

Faith

How long after you were infected did you take the ELISA test and did you get accurate results?

Hi,

About 7 months.

Came out HSV-2 positive.

When the result is positive, it's very much accurate.

Best wishes..

Faith

Ah Rich! Merry Christmas!! :D

Yes, I had an outbreak ( blister) 7 month before I took that test. And I believe 99.999% that was my first outbreak, but test result was negative and no doctor found out that was herpes outbreak..

Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

In this forum we will discuss does lume work Lume is paraben-free and uses several natural ingredients like Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, tapioca starch, and Maranta arundinacea root powder (also known as arrowroot powder) to control odor and sweat. One of the key Lume deodorant ingredients is mandelic acid, an AHA found in skin care products, which also has an antibacterial effect.

Ibuprofen medicine is a painkiller. Can you take ibuprofen on an empty stomach  Some people take medicine empty stomach which is not good for our health. Because painkiller kind of medicine is very strong and can harm your liver. Medicine makes many strong ingredients. like Lactose, corn starch, hypromellose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), and carnauba wax.

Never had a history of Oral cold sores before, but have dated someone with them.  Thats very interesting about the test. This was my first full panel.  The large bumps have recently show up, its been about a few weeks when I noticed them. Again no pain nor fluids from them.
