Hi everyone! This is my first day on this site but I contracted ghsv-2 sometime between May 21st and May 23rd, developed the first prodrome symptoms on May 25th and got diagnosed on May 28th. Since then I haven't gone more than a week without an outbreak so I'm on #6 now. I tried going on antivirals for a while but really didn't like them (which I hate myself for but I figured I'd rather deal with the not-so-painful outbreaks than risk the other side effects). The outbreaks aren't that bad, especially not compared to the primary one. I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy. But I've been having these weird random joint and muscle pains and twitches which are more frustrating than painful and pretty consistent. I know it takes time for our bodies to adjust to having herpes so I told myself I'd be patient and give it 6 months then a year. If things haven't regulated by then I'm going to a rheumatologist or infectious disease specialist to see what else can be going on. I'm a 20 year old college senior and cheerleader so if anyone wants to talk or vent or just make a friend who understands the herpes life feel free to do so with me!!

Hey and welcome! That doesn't sound good. There is no real reason why you should be having these ongoing outbreaks. Antivirals are very effective and useful during the first few months but after that your body should be on top of things.

Do you have type 2? Was the swab properly typed?

Hi! When I went to the ER for the primary she looked at and swabbed it and it came back positive for type 2. Then the second outbreak happened about a week or two later and both the urgent care doctor (I only went there because I figured she could prescribe me something) and the gynecologist said they didn't think it looked like herpes but the gynecologist did a biopsy and said the results came back as "just a large herpes" and told me to let it heal on its own. Then an identical sore came up on the other side as soon as that one healed and that's when she prescribed me a suppressive dose of valtrex which I tried for about a week but hated so she switched me to acyclovir which didn't make me drowsy but also wasn't stopping me from feeling the prodrome symptoms. I was already skeptical about it because when I felt bad on the valtrex I read the potential side effects and thought oh goodness no those are far far worse. I just didn't want one of them to happen and have a doctor say it's irreversible and the chance I took when I decided to take the antivirals. The problem is, most people take the antivirals and their outbreaks calm down so no one can really tell me if this is the normal reaction and number of outbreaks for people not taking antivirals. I'm not at all against antivirals or people who choose to take them but I feel like I can't really complain since I choose not to take them. But at the same time I don't know whether or not these back to back outbreaks are a sign of an abnormality or when I should be back to normal.

Hello, since you are four months into this, I was wondering, how long did it take for your privates to feel normal again? I still feel sore down there and not quite myself.

I have hsv-1 oral and gen.

I have a friend who's had hsv-2 for a year n a half and she's fine now except for MAYBE around her period.

So I'm just going to continue about St.John's Wort.

St.John's Wort has been shown to REGENERATE nerves. Now, hsv is a hot, volatile, eruptive... damaging the nerves. People will be very sensitive (neuropathy....) this heals very slowly unless one utilizes herbs or just like to be incredibly patient.

Next to healing nerves, St.John's Wort is very antiviral to HSV. It makes for an environment where the viral particles can't maintain their structure so they fall apart.

But you gotta get a good quality St.John's Wort product... I recommend Gaia Herbs... They grow all their own herbs, their SJW is in liquid extract capsules.

There are some cautions for SJW like if you're taking antidepressants. and photosensitivity so be careful about sun exposure. But SJW will heal and regenerate your nerves, clear the inflammation, improve the lymphatic flow. Honestly, I never thought I'd be a SJW evangelist, but it's freaking amazing.

I take 1 a day. During really stressful days, I'll take 2. Everywhere recommends to take 1, 3x a day.

Thank you, I'll give it a try. I had a blood test done and it came back positive for hsv1 and since I've never had an oral cold sore, I'm assuming that is what is going on down there. I had three canker like sores in July and they were already gone when I went to see the Dr.

Just another set of supporting articles to a potential release date in 2024 giving hope to sufferers whom the standard of care is currently worthless: Promising Progress in clinical trials for Pritelivir (herpescureadvocacy.com) HSV Treatment Readies for Approval — Precision Vaccinations News

I have not found a cheaper source for Amenalief, and I've searched high and low. I have a thread called "Pritelivir at Last" you may want to follow as I have a strong belief that It may be available to the public in the summer of 2024 and as I find new info, I update the thread immediately. Now, may I suggest a combination of drugs that several others on this forum have found to be very effective over acyclovir alone? Myself and others have found that taking 40mg of omeprazole (Tagamet @dissolvedo2 ) with 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the morning and 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the evening alone for 3 days have had profound effectiveness at stopping outbreaks in their tracks. I'd like to remind you that I am not a doctor and at best I am personal researcher for what works for me. I @lw@ys share my findings with the forum in the hopes to help others alleviate their suffering. There is another drug combo that I have tried myself as well as others on this forum have tried and that I personally feel is a much more effective for myself. This combo is 1 gram of activated charcoal with 1-gram of valacyclovir in the morning followed by 1 gram of valacyclovir in the evening alone, again for 3 days. I have found that this has reduced my outbreaks to almost only once a year and they are mild at worse. Again, just a reminder that this works for me and may not work for you but I always feel that i have to share this with anyone that cannot get this virus under control so I hope my findings can help those of you who cannot achieve relief with the standard treatment alone. The stronger anti-virals come with risks and if I can help anyone avoid those risks then by all means I feel I have done some good in this world. I only ask that you let me know if either of these suggestions work for you so that I can document it in my notes. Good luck my friend!

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti
