Can you get herpes from an old love (2 years ago) if you know for a fact this is your first Outbreak ever?  Been having sex with new boyfriend for 6 months-but am a widow and lost my husband 2 years ago.

Hey Long4him, I am sorry about your husband and your loss. *hugs* . But yes , you can have herpes for decades but just never know it if you have never properly tested for herpes. I have had it over 25 yrs (my husband is non H man of 25 yrs) but he has properly tested to know this status. Have you tested with an IGG Herpeselect Blood test to type what h you have , like h1 or h2 ? Your husband could have had it but neither of you two ever properly tested to know for sure.

Honey the only dumb question is the one we never ask. Never dumb to ask anything here and never too much information shared here either, so ask away anything you feel the need to know. Yes, I received the test results yesterday.  I only have h2.   If stress is really a catalyst, you would think I would have gotten an outbreak 2 or 3 yrs ago?  Not liking it so far...

Have you got the exact result of your IgG HSV-2 test? This test has a reasonable amount of false positives and needs to be greater than 3.5 to confirm infection.

I too have ghsv2 and I also stayed dormant for 23 yrs, means NO OUTBREAKS,  I've had genital h2 for 25 years plus some, lol..

My middle name is "stress" my maiden name is "dramas" but I still only had three outbreaks ever. This latest outbreak came after my recent major surgeries and I too am not liking it but it is in the anus area, better then the initial area, vaginal  area, and this officially makes my 3rd outbreak ever in 27 yrs (brought on by my recent surgeries). My hubby is still non H man for over 25 years now and he has tested this past few years ( for my sanity and peace of mind only) , he doesn't care about herpes.

I have had more crappy adversities in life to fill the Grand Canon, but such is life. Did you get a hard copy of these test? If so can you post the numerical values (numbers) for H1 and H2 status. These number may be high which could mean either newer infection or longer infection. This new man could also be the source of this h2. Honey please try not to stress, I do try, taking Vitamin B12 Complex Sublingual helps with my nervousness and my stresses ( by use of my Dr."s recommendations  decades ago) and you can get it at any Drugs store. Let us know.

I have the printed report.  No numbers - i guess they don't show that detail here in Canada.  Just positive.   I asked the Dr specically cause I read about the numbers.  She said typically with my new primary out break it would be new boyfriend (who I think I have fallen in love with).   I am trying to stay positive as much as I can.  It been non stop inside (ouch) for 6 weeks and Dr increased the medication yesterday!

OK, let's back up a bit here. You're in Canada and had an IgG test how long after the symptoms started? Tests in Canada are usually combined HSV1/2 hence you are unable to tell which type you have (or whether a second type has been acquired).

 

Six weeks is a long time for herpes symptoms to persist, which suggests you at least have something else going on down there. Did you get a swab done on any lesions.

I had a swab.  Two swab (omg-they hurt and cryed out involuntarily). in fact one week after being with my fellow.   I thought I had a bad UTI bladder infection.  Prescription for Valtrex and diagnosis for h From Dr on the spot.  Swab test came back positive.   Went to igG blood test a week later.   Had protected sex at three weeks cause I thought I felt better which started the OB again the following day.   New boyfriend is scared to touch me now.   Yes- given referral to gynocolgist Specialist Dr.   might take weeks though.  Boyfriend has become strangely distant this week.  I am so sad....

Also blood test was split into 2 parts. It came up negative for herpes 1.

A type specific test in Canada, well done!

All this becomes a 50/50 call. If you have never experienced an outbreak before, then this is quite suggestive of the current partner being the source. The positive test would then be a low positive after 2 weeks (but we can't ascertain this). Offsetting this though is that a positive blood test usually indicates an infection at least a month ago and usually longer term.

Under these circumstances, there is no harm in suggesting your current partner test having the exact same test as you. There is a reasonable chance he does have it (long term) and hence there is no reason on that account to be distant.

The Postive test was dated July 10.  We have been having sex since nov of last year.  

Sex weekend before this whole OB nightmare was 1 week prior to OB and 2 weeks before blood test.

I think it is new guy....but he says he's never had symptoms.  It's so hard and I dont want to lay blame-i just want him to test....and trust me and support me.

Sweetheart,  has boyfriend tested properly? His distance is his fear of the virus stigmas not of you. It may also be him who has it so ask him to get properly tested before he distances himself from you. You and he can be of great support for one another and if he truly cares he won't play into dumb stigma and he will step up and test to know if he does carry the virus already.

My husband of 25 yrs has still tested negative for my GHSV2.  His support on this virus and his support in love/life and our vows are what knocks that ugly stigmas right on its Ass! He would never let such a thing interfere with the decades of happy living and loving and trust me WAY MORE bigger issues out there in this world than having herpes virus. Ask him if he has ever had chicken pox or mononucleosis, these are in the herpes family too. I myself had shingles just a few yrs ago and that hell was way worst then any of my outbreaks with ghsv2. Get him tested and communicate what his feelings are and what your feelings are, don't let something so minute destroy a foundation that is built on love and trust.  If the foundation is strong, the virus has NO effect, if this relationship is not strong enough, it is not meant to be and I promise you will find the right partner for you. I found my man after my diagnosis, so first love isn't always the best love. LOVE  is way way stronger than this virus. I am proof  Hugs Aces

Just when I think I am good it comes back, although first vaginal, now has moved to all the way down my butt Crack with one new vaginal lesion. I am also completely stressed out although I try really hard. I have been taking 2 Valtrex daily since...ugh just frustrated with my immune system at this point. I try to sleep, and I can't I really try to watch what I eat but I'M so over this. I have not yet tried Olive leaf extract which will be my next thing. I have been doing the Oil of Oregano on the spine, tea tree extract, not sure if helping or not since I keep getting new sores. Just part of my story, so at least we are not alone in this not going away. I was confirmed with IGg, and swab. I have been back and had a Pap as well, so I'm told everything else is clear. I think though once I move on from this first OB I will be better off with dealing, because right now this just sucks, but trying to keep the faith.

Hey Disillusioned, welcome to the family  Have yyou tried Vitamin b12 complex for nerves support, extra energies and stress relief. Also taking Melatonin for sleeping helps the brain rest so the body heals (3mg) , these two items have been like a Godsend for me. Once again welcome honey. Hugs Aces

I have tried B12, not the melatonin, but a good idea. Trying to be positive but it has been trying. And taking such a toll with joint pain etc on top.

Good News

I had a heart to heart talk with my new love (boyfriend of 6 mths).  He does't care about the herpes-he cares and still wants me!!   I am going to take each new day as it comes and hope I feel better physically soon as well.  :)
