Only people with GHSV1, how long did you wait after an OB to have sex?

Ok so im nearing my end of my outbreak. I actually finished my valtrex this morning and the sores seem gone but there is still a little bit of itching. FIrst things first, I am literally terrified to shave because I heard that it can cause irritation to the skin and creat another outbreak which is what I do not want. The pain was simply unbearable. I am just curious is if that happened to anyone one here?

Next subject, I recently met this guy, we've gone on a few dates, all we have done was kiss so far and I believe he wants to be intimate soon but i choose not too because I was just recently diagnosed like 3 weeks ago. My doctor said I do not have to disclose GHSV1 because its very rare to pass it on genitally but my question to you guys is, how long did you wait to have sex with someone after an outbreak?

Please do not be judemental on here, all i ask for is advice. thank you.

Hello my dear. I am probably not the best person to be giving advice but my symptoms have been like a haemmorhoid itch and quite mild so my bf and I have continued having sex during these periods.

he is aware of what's going on and doesn't care, which seems to be the mindset of a lot of males, but it still pays to be open and honest.

hopefully you have no more outbreaks!! Yay!

good luck with it all and I bet you this guy will be very open and supportive

I told the person I met 2 weeks before my diagnosis. He agreed to stay around but we have not had sex. It's been good because we do other things. But it may come up and we have to discuss it.

I actually waited a week before I shaved, then I had sex that same day. Once the itching goes away and all lesions are healed it is safe.

As far as being afraid of shaving, honestly in my experience as long as its healed, shaving wont cause anything. BUT if you ever suspect a sore/lesion in your pubic area do not shave. Do not. I am the most paranoid person anyones ever known, I was scared to shave too. Once I did it i realized its okay. You have to go about your everyday life and not be taken over by your diagnosis.

As far as this new guy, I still think you need to tell him you have HSV1. What if he does catch it, wether it be through oral contact or through genital contact? You at least need to give him a warning. Like 'Hey dude, just so you know...' In my opinion I just think the outcome would be better if you did, but obviously that's your choice.

  • 4 weeks later...

I shaved a week after my first outbreak healed and immediately came down with another one. But I was also undiagnosed so I hadn't taken any antivirals. I shaved maybe a month after the second outbreak and was fine. I think the longer you've had it shaving is less likely to cause an outbreak because outbreaks are less likely to begin with, and if you've just taken a course of antivirals I'd think the risk is even lower.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
