does this look like whitlow? had it about a month now... no pain really...

also have a jaw that hurts when I chew... right about where the top and bottom jaw meet... about 3days or so now...

also have genital tingling for about a week now off and on... no ob just some redness and irritation on penis shaft...

have had other symptoms off and on but these are the current ones about 7 mos after a questionable exposure...

I have been tested twice with igg type specific... once at 9 weeks and one at 16 weeks... negative for both hsv1 n hsv2...

not sure what's going on... ideas?

I tried to attach pictures of the "whitlow" but wasn't able to...

its a area on my first joint down from tip of my finger... raised area about size of a dime with a mostly flat circle in the middle of it... doesn't really hurt just don't know what it might be...

A negative test at 16 weeks is pretty conclusive.  Also even oral hsv shouldn't cause problems with your jaw, it is a skin virus, not a joint one.  Have you not sought professional medical advice?

Was this "questionable exposure" sex with someone you shouldn't have?  I have met a LOT of people here over the years who had sex with someone they shouldn't have or later regretted and were so guilt ridden that they conjured up all types of symptoms that HAD to be the 2nd most common STD, herpes.  One dude even had over 15 blood tests, several swab tests and a Western Blot blood test over the years because he was certain he had to have gotten herpes from cheating on his gf.

Guilt is a powerful emotion which can create symptoms on its own even if there is no underlying cause.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply...

I had protected vaginal and unprotected oral with someone (not my wife)...

I read on a med site that oral herpes can get into the nerves where the jaws meet and cause pain... idk...

I have been to my gp about 3 times for various symptoms but he didn't think herpes but ordered the testing anyway...

I have had so many herpes like symptoms though...

on and off general redness and irritation on penis shaft for the last couple months... tingling in genital area... sore throat and thrush... nausea and fatigue... genital region pain... etc...

would love to trust my testing but all these symptoms are troubling... there seems to be a lot of conflicting info online about test timing and conclusiveness...

thought about doing the western blot but not sure... with 2 clear negatives spaced apart like they were and the last one being at 4+ months I think I should be alright... just not sure...

any ideas about my symptoms?

are there any others on here who like me have herpes like symptoms but continue to be negative on testing? any of them eventually test positive?

thanks again for your help...

You will meet many people on here who have symptoms like you but still test negative but I bet most of them have also had sex with someone they regret.  A Western blot test after 16 weeks should give you no doubt.

To answer your question I can't think of anyone who has continued to test negative after 16 weeks that eventually tested positive.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply...

that gives me encouragement...

some symptoms I know can be anxiety/guilt related... but some clearly aren't... that's the ones that worry me... the finger... the jaw... etc... idk...

it seems every time I convince myself the testing was accurately conclusive another symptom comes up... been about 8 mos since exposure and about 7 mos of that with various symptoms...

thanks again for your help...

  • 1 month later...

Windmill I'm in the same boat.  7-8 mos out yet constant symptoms. 2 hsv1 equivocals 3 and 4 weeks after oral then 5-6 more negatives for both.  My symptoms don't stop.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
