Unfortunate news... I found out that I no longer have health insurance. I am a full time college student with a part time job and cannot afford a $300 bottle of medicine. Im in the midst of suppresive therapy beause of my reocurring outbreaks. I am on the vurge of having one beause sores are coming again. Without this medicine, I am beyond nervous to say the least about how I will go through with this outbreak without medication. The pain is just very discomforting and I could barely walk at times when it is at its most serious. Just curious, what are my options as of now? (I am applying for other medical insurances, but that takes times) i need quick remedies? or even other generic brands? What are some good insurances for herpes medication? Anything that helps would be greatly appreciated

With genital HSV-1, you are not likely to need antivirals beyond a couple of months of infection. How many more weeks do you have to go? Maybe that will be enough to see you through to the point where the virus is under control by the body. Some time without antivirals to enable the body to adjust is a good idea for your immune system.

I was diagnosed about a month ago when I had my first outbreak. I was on both acyclovir and vacyclovir at the time and it lasted about 2 and a half weeks. Now I am starting to get sores once more, and have no access to any antivirals. I am playing a collegiate sport and if this outbreak becomes worse it, i know for a fact this will affect my overall performance. The itching and tingling is starting to come back. I really am distraught on what to do @wilsoinaus

Hi L&C;

Many pharmacies carry acyclovir for $4 for a 30 day prescription WITHOUT insurance.  Its only for the 200 mg but the 400 mg isn't that much more expensive.  You can find this price at Walmart, Kroger and most larger pharmacies.

Good luck!

If you're a full time college student, you can apply for Medicaid if your net income is below I think $16,000 or $15,000. If you apply for insurance during open enrollment, you'll get denied If you don't make enough but you'll be able to get Medicaid.

Have you tried Planned parenthood, the go by what you earn. My daughter gets her bc through them and she has a part-time job so her cost is low.

Hey hey, I think we can be more culturally sensitive than that. America is a free country full of free people and they vote the way they choose for the change they desire.

I'm recently diagnosed and I too am a collegiate athlete. How have you found the antivirals in suppressing symptoms and continuing playing the sport? I still have my first outbreak and am in immense pain, so thinking about running right now is out of the question.

I wouldn't be able to tell my coach that I have herpes, so how have you dealt with sports? Obstacles?

I am a collegiate athlete as well.

I told my assistant coach who I trust a lot, we are fairly close. She was able to give me some advice. My first outbreak was absolutely terrible. The doctor gave me some meds to stop by outbreak but I'm not doing suppressive therapy.

For the first few weeks I could barely walk and it was tough for me to practice and do workouts but I had to be very strong. I'm a personal person and don't like people thinking I am weaker than they are. Feel free to message me if you need any other support. I would suggest telling your coach that you are having some private medical issues and might need to take a few days of rest because the first outbreak is extremely draining on the body.

This community helped me a lot and if you need anything don't hesitate to ask. You're not alone!

How about your diet and sleep.  Maybe you are pushing too hard exercising. Try lysine

Sleep is minimal for a college athlete and they push you to the brink as far as exercise, especially during season which never really gives your body a chance to rest. I agree with Lisa, try Lysine but you can also try another natural remedy such as tea tree oil!

      Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

      Well thank you I appreciate it

      Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
