Newly Diagnosed Years Later

Wanted to start by saying hello to everyone in the forum.

I was diagnosed with HSV2 in August, yes I have had affairs thru my marriage...when I tried to trace my actions I remembered a horrible er encounter almost 30 years prior (I am in my 40s now)...I obtained my chart...Although I wasn't formally diagnosed with hsv2 back then...I was diagnosed with perianal and vagina ulcers..I was covered...painful...low grade fever...when I showed my chart to several doctors they all confirmed in their opinion it was hsv2.

i may have had subtle symptoms all along, nothing to prompt medical attention until August.

im pretty stunned, still finding I hard to wrap my brain around the fact that I've carried this virus all along and didn't know...the people I could of affected...I wanted to very much blame an affair.

Anyway, that's my story, I hope to find resources input and support here...thanks ;)

Your story is common to about 80% of people who carry the virus! Many people experience a few patrches of sores at infection and then very little thereafter, maybe a few mild outbreaks a year that go largely unnoticed.

What you describe does sound a faiurly typical primary infection, but I wonder why you were not tested for herpes at the time.

I take it you had a blood test come up firmly positive for IgG HSV-2 antibodies?

They tested me for syphills back then, according to my chart, did routine blood work (cbc), urinalysis, and swabbed it for a mono spot, and ecoli...who knows what they were thinking...I was covered down there...painful urinating...red bumps, some with pus in center...I could hardly walk (that's how I remembered to even look back at that chart)...they never herpes tested...my final diagnosis was perianal/vaginal ulcers...My primary care doctor and obgyn are convinced that was my primary ob.

Decades later...I had pain upon urination, thought I had a yeast infection,..I just had a clean pap/physical exam a few months prior...I insisted he looked at me...he knew right away it was herpes...but did the swab on my ob....it came back positive.

i am embarrassed, humaliated, and ashamed...I want to very much blame one of my affairs for this...but I think I'm the one that brought this to the table.:..they all have wives...part of me feels I deserve this, and I am not better emotionally now than I was in August at time of my official diagnosis.
