Who am I now?

Had a very bad couple of days. Had a drunken sexual encounter with someone and right afterwards contracted an UTI. A few days later I did stuff with the same person I didn't think anything of it. I've been checked before and according to him so has he. Two days after the second encounter w him I started getting this burning sensation when I peed. Not being able to handle it any longer I went to a nearby clinic, since I'm away at school, I couldn't go to my family doctor. They had me take a urine test and did a pelvic exam. Results came back that I still had a bit of my UTI left, but during the pelvic exam she started saying comments like "ooooo this is herpes." My heart dropped to my stomach. Plus, it was so hard to go through this without my mother there w me. I get my official results tomorrow and I'm starting to get anxiety. I've cried for days and now I'm just numb. I'm only 20 years old. I know people say there is someone out there for me...but who would want to take this chance? It just sucks that people are not educated on this disease. So, it freaks everyone out. Just feeling extra alone tonight.

make a positive singles account, youll see a LOT of people have this, you dont have to date people off it but it is reassuring.

Hi Banana...first of all just breath.  I know it's scary...especially being away from home and your probably beating yourself up...but you have come to the right place.

IIt's hard to get past the initial shock and move forward but with time you will begin to realize you are still the great person you were before H.

As for people being misinformed and scared...you are correct.  I actually had a good friend who knows I'm H positive ask me "if I have a cut on my neck and your rubbing it" ...as I was at the time..."can I catch it from you?"  My response was " am I rubbing your neck with my pu**y while I have an OB?"  He says NO.  Then I say "no you cant".

It was insulting and hurtful. Especially since I had already explained it aand given him all the facts and figures.  But my point is...not all people are ignorant like this I have told others who are loving and supportive.  So stay positive and keep us posted on your results.  LL

Yes remain positive because stress is an enemy I still struggle with depression however people without HSV does as well

Hi banana;

Visual diagnosis is the least accurate way to diagnose this virus.  Did they perform a swab or culture test?  Because a urine test can't tell if you have this virus.

I have been on this website for over 6 years and have met a LOT of people who had sex with someone they later regretted and came here POSITIVE they had herpes and later found out they did not.  Guilt feelings are powerful and can manifest physical symptoms even if there is  nothing there.  

Even if you are a Herpster you can live a normal life.  Over the years many people here have told me that getting genital herpes changed their lives for the better.  They start working out, eating more healthy and make better overall life decisions.  You won't have to create a positive singles account to find love.  I know a LOT of people who have never been rejected because of this.  I myself have given the 'talk' about a dozen times and have scored each and every time    Have you ever had mono or chicken pox?  If so, you already had herpes.  90% of all adults have herpes in one form or another.

Learn all you can about this and even if you do have it, it doesn't have to be a big deal.

I'm really sorry you're feeling so alone. I know it feels really scary when your body is doing things you don't understand- it feels like you're completely out of control. But you did the right thing in reaching out to people who know what it's like to go through those same feelings. As others have said, being told it looks like you have herpes is definitely not the same as actually having herpes and/or testing positive for it. It's good that you got tested- keep us posted on the results.

To answer your question- who am I now?- you are the same exact person, with or without herpes. People catch viruses- it has nothing to do with who you are as a person. 

I really hope your symptoms lessen, that you feel better, and get some answers soon!

No, she took swabs of it during the pelvic exam, but kept saying she was positive that it is herpes. I was supposed to get my official results today but no one has called me at the clinic and it closed early today.
