Girl im seeing has Oral HSV-1, I Have Genital HSV-2

According to this study, due to the fact HSV-1 and HSV-2 share some DNA, she should have a small amount of cross protection against my genital HSV-2 right?

Therefore as long as i use antivirals the chances of me passing this on to her via sexual intercourse are slimmer than if she DIDNT have HSV-1?

Yeah, I would say that you are probably right - in fact, I had read somewhere once that HSV2 being a bit more of the aggressive type of the two, affords you more protection from HSV1 than vice versa.

Herpes is tricky. I have both oral hsv1  and genital hsv 2. I've had oral hsv1 (fever blisters) since I was a  kid and I acquired genital hsv2 a few years ago. My ex boyfrend tested negative for both  types and did not acquire herpes during our relationship. I do know that  a prior herpes infection  does protect from acquiring another herpes virus type in the same location, ie if you have oral hsv1, you are very likely not going to get oral hsv2 also. So from your scenario,your girlfriend ( or anyone who gives you a kiss, such as a relative, friend, etc) can give you oral hsv1 and you can give her genital hsv2. For genital herpes, antivirals and condoms help tremendoulsy and lower transmission close to nil. Hth!

I think there is some validity in the fact that because your BF has Oral hSV he already has some antibodies to stop transmission of HSV2

Do you use condoms or just antivirals alone?

      Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

      Hey @WilsoInAus miałam dzisiaj wizytę u dermatologa, gdyż dostałam zmian w pachwinie, w trakcie wakacji nad morzem. Udałam sie tam ze zmianami w postaci strupów. Powiedział ze nie można wykluczyć opryszczki mimo negatywnego wyniku Hsv igg i zalecił wymaz z pochwy na Hsv i inne choroby. Wytłumaczyłam mu że zmiany zamieniają się w strup, ale nie ma w nich płynu, więc zalecił badanie śluzu pochwy na hsv PCR, zastanawiam się czy ma to sens, i czy wirusa można wykryć na podstawie tego badania w wydzielin z szyjki macicy. Z góry dziekuje za pomoc

      Never had a history of Oral cold sores before, but have dated someone with them.  Thats very interesting about the test. This was my first full panel.  The large bumps have recently show up, its been about a few weeks when I noticed them. Again no pain nor fluids from them.
