Cold turkey or slow and easy?

Hello wise friends of this great group. I have an issue I'm trying to work out and the collective knowledge of the group would be greatly appreciated. I was diagnosed with GHSV1 in May of 2014 and have been on valacyclovir 500mg daily since September of 2014. I have been steady like clock work give or take a few days of taking in mornings and a few days taking in nights but always everday with my blood pressure meds, a fish oil tablet, and 1000mg L-lysine. My issue is that the price of valacyclovir has gone up and I've been thinking since I haven't had a breakout since March of 2015 (and that was after having sex for the first time since May of 2014), should I try and go without it and see what happens? If so, should I go straight cold turkey or slowly wind down? Like say take one every other day or every three days? Would greatly appreciate any personal stories of success or issues related that may help, thanks in advance.

When my doctor weened me off it was 1-500mg every other day for 5 days. You could also try just taking antivirals when you know your going to have sexy times. I no longer take daily therapies, but they prescribed me 2-500mg a day and I just took one it stretched my pills from one year to two years. I keep an extra 30 day supply of Valacyclovir on hand just in case I get an unexpected outbreak like I did last month. It's actually 60pills (one script) . Hope this helps sweetheart. Hugs Aces xo

Hey Ace, always nice to hear from your wisdom on things. Did you notice any changes during and after your transition? Also did you take anything else before, during, and after?

Things have not been going so well with this "trying to kick Val thing" I have had like two OB's in the last to weeks. Need some support feeling discouraged.

Why don't you think about just reducing the dose to 250mg daily instead of going cold turkey. I'm on daily suppressive meds however I'm taking aciclovir 400mg twice a day, I've looked into coming off then but haven't been brave enough yet!  From what I've read when you do come off the meds it's commen  to have quite a few outbreaks while your immune system deals with handling the virus on its own!!!

I have been taking anti virals for a free weeks because I am getting minor OB once a month! I started taking them once and second day 400mg cuz I am having unprotected sex. Should I take 200 instead of just when I have sexy time? I don't want to. Be on anti virals but I am getting these strange. Ob's. I get redness, small red bump. Don't know what to do. Is taking 400 mg every second day still sufficient.

I'm no expert buy personally would be taking 200mg everyday rather than 400mg every other day as I believe that the aciclovir only last 12ish hours in the body therefore would leave your immune system to have to cope with the virus for a day until you took the next 400mg tablet!

I only decided to give it a try because the price went up for me on valacyclovir. I'd heard of others making it work without antivirals and figured since I hadn't been having problems (while staying consistently on it), that my condition might just be surpressd enough to let my body handle it but I wanted some coaching before I went to deep into it. I trust the info here over the Facebook crowd folk.

On the issue of the OB's increasing when you first go off, does that eventually stop? and if so how long does it normally take?

All input appreciated. Thanks.

I would say the outbreaks reduce but I don't know that personally as I'm still on the medication, I think it takes time for your body to Adjust fighting the virus on your own

Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

In this forum we will discuss does lume work Lume is paraben-free and uses several natural ingredients like Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, tapioca starch, and Maranta arundinacea root powder (also known as arrowroot powder) to control odor and sweat. One of the key Lume deodorant ingredients is mandelic acid, an AHA found in skin care products, which also has an antibacterial effect.

Ibuprofen medicine is a painkiller. Can you take ibuprofen on an empty stomach  Some people take medicine empty stomach which is not good for our health. Because painkiller kind of medicine is very strong and can harm your liver. Medicine makes many strong ingredients. like Lactose, corn starch, hypromellose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), and carnauba wax.

Never had a history of Oral cold sores before, but have dated someone with them.  Thats very interesting about the test. This was my first full panel.  The large bumps have recently show up, its been about a few weeks when I noticed them. Again no pain nor fluids from them.
