I recently went to the health department to get put on birth control and I thought hmm, might as well get checked for stds. I never thought I had herpes, my results came back inconclusive, the doctor just keep saying sorry, like my life was over. Made me feel worthless and disgusting. I decided to go get rechecked it took about four days for results to come back. I sobbed for four days straight wondering why this happened to me, why me? In high school I was on the varsity soccer team, popular, until I went to a party, my first party ever and got drunk and  made a mistake. Having herpes never once crossed my mind. Now I'm in college with the rest of my life to live. I went to get my results the lady handed me my results and went to leave she said sweetheart I think you should go ahead and open it, I read what I thought ruined my life. I was positive for genital herpes. I told my boyfriend of two years the day I found out, crying my eyes out because I thought he would leave me, he stayed. His opinion of me never once changed. He loves me regardless of a skin condition I have no control over. It's been about 1 month since I found out, but I have questions. I've been urinating a lot is it because of herpes? Can I get medication from the health clinic? Because I would rather not go to a doctors office. Is itching normal? How common is it to get oral herpes if you have genital herpes? Is it normal to get severe cramps? Please help.

A lot of really good questions here.

First though, I'd question what test you have had and what symptoms have you had. Have you ever had an outbreak of lesions in your genital area? Was the test an IgG for HSV-2 antibodies and what was the numerical score. Hopefully that piece of paper has all the answers on it.

Neither me or my boyfriend have ever had symptoms. I went to a any lab test now and it was a test specially for herpes. Both type 1 and 2. I'm not too sure what they are called but my score was 1.04 the first time I got test at the health department. And 1.5 when I went to the any lab test now clinic.

That figure is a very low positive meaning that if you have never had symptoms there is over a 75% chance you are truly negative.

So how to confirm this. You can either wait a few months and retest and see if a negative emerges. Or to learn straight away and you live in the US, then the Westernblot test will give you your answer.

You are the first to tell me this, so thank you very very much. Just to be clear I have a low positive, which means there is a chance I in fact don't have herpes? I have came to be accepting with the diagnosis if i do have it. The people who have tested me so far just keep saying sorry, like my life is completely over. It's making me feel horrible about myself.

Well that is ridiculous what they are saying. It does not matter whether you do or do not have herpes. Your life is no different whether you do or do not. Most doctors are indifferent as they see it as at the extreme mior end of what they need to deal with daily.

Yes a low positive means there is a chance you do not have herpes. Most people with HSV-2 test in excess of 3.5, usually 8 and above.

Thank you for all of your help. You made me feel better about it. I will most definitely get checked again. Not trying to be nosy but when you first got tested did you have low score or was yours high to begin with?

Just another set of supporting articles to a potential release date in 2024 giving hope to sufferers whom the standard of care is currently worthless: Promising Progress in clinical trials for Pritelivir (herpescureadvocacy.com) HSV Treatment Readies for Approval — Precision Vaccinations News

I have not found a cheaper source for Amenalief, and I've searched high and low. I have a thread called "Pritelivir at Last" you may want to follow as I have a strong belief that It may be available to the public in the summer of 2024 and as I find new info, I update the thread immediately. Now, may I suggest a combination of drugs that several others on this forum have found to be very effective over acyclovir alone? Myself and others have found that taking 40mg of omeprazole (Tagamet @dissolvedo2 ) with 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the morning and 1 gram of Valacyclovir in the evening alone for 3 days have had profound effectiveness at stopping outbreaks in their tracks. I'd like to remind you that I am not a doctor and at best I am personal researcher for what works for me. I @lw@ys share my findings with the forum in the hopes to help others alleviate their suffering. There is another drug combo that I have tried myself as well as others on this forum have tried and that I personally feel is a much more effective for myself. This combo is 1 gram of activated charcoal with 1-gram of valacyclovir in the morning followed by 1 gram of valacyclovir in the evening alone, again for 3 days. I have found that this has reduced my outbreaks to almost only once a year and they are mild at worse. Again, just a reminder that this works for me and may not work for you but I always feel that i have to share this with anyone that cannot get this virus under control so I hope my findings can help those of you who cannot achieve relief with the standard treatment alone. The stronger anti-virals come with risks and if I can help anyone avoid those risks then by all means I feel I have done some good in this world. I only ask that you let me know if either of these suggestions work for you so that I can document it in my notes. Good luck my friend!

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti
