Do you any of you take Valtrex generics aka valacyclovir? If so, do you know the manufacturer? I recently got a prescription for valacyclovir and filled it at CVS. What they gave me came in a blue bottle and is manufactured by Mylan. I have actually gotten worse while taking it, and by doing a quick google search I learned that lots of people have had problems with Mylan. So, I'm trying to find a different generic manufacturer that people have had success with. I think Teva is a good one. After I get some feedback from you all I'll my local pharmacies and see which they carry.

Thank you!

Recently I went to the pharmacy to get my valacyclovir. This time it came in a different box. I did not pay any attention to it.

A few days into the new valaciclovir, suddenly and quite unexpectedly ( after mentruation instead of my usual before) I got a bad outbreak in a spot that had been quiet for years. It hurts a lot. Taking 1500(!) a day now trying to supress it, but nothing. It is just like an outbreak without valaciclovir.

Now I take a closer look at the box, and I got a different brand.  Guess what, it is Mylan!

Went back to the pharmacy. It seems the wholesaler won't be able to deliver my usual version (Teva) until June.

Any more people here with a similar experience?

Teva is discontinued!!!! Real stuff is so expensive! At my pharmacist anyway! I live in Canada

Who is the manufacturer for Canada? I get pills without box at pharmacy, so I don't know the source (I may ask).

Ok, mine is also MYLAND. The pharmacist said the original brand Valtrex is more expensive. They didn't tell me when I was there that there are other options. Wasn't cheap anyway. They just wanna sell whatever makes more $$$. Makes me mad. I'll rather stop with this one (using 4days) and buy a new one...

There are discussions about generic valacyclovir versions on inet, which says particularly Mylan brand is ineffective. Great, that FDA doesn't care about that... (but does obstacles with approving vaccines). Also, I can imagine the effectiveness of asymptomatic shedding reduction... the pharmacist didn't inform me, they make money anyway x-(

Some people say valaciclovir doesn't help them. Maybe the just got the wrong brand. Funny though, it contains the same medicin, just different things to form the pill. It should make no difference. But it does.

I'll call Teva this week. Ask them if it is true they can't deliver now.

I also made a complaint with the national agency that checks side effects in medicine. My side effect is that it has no effect at all.

Yes, so we are buying candies, people complain and nobody cares...

I have called different pharmacy than where I bought mylan valacyclovir and they have different manufacturer Apotex and even told me they can order Teva one for me (it may mean it's still available, Hansje). Anyway, original Valtrex is 9$ more than generic/month for me, so I will go for it to be on safe side...

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
