Symptoms but negative IGG. What now??

My symptoms five months ago- sore spot on penis (did not hurt at all) but it did dry up and scab after a few days. Groin rash which doctor said looked fungal (didn't get in till scab was almost gone). NO flu symptoms or painful urination. No fever. I also had bad leg pain in my left leg for a couple weeks which started a couple weeks after groin symptoms. I still have groin symptoms red rash which was itchy.  I was worried about herps quite a bit. Tested once with IGG test at five months. Negative for 1 and 2. I traveled six hour drive to take this test and can't really afford to do it again. Should I move on?

Could a scab or sore on penis be anything but herps??

please help me guys

That is all pretty conclusive that you do not have herpes.

A single sore is not really suggestive of a herpes infection and an ongoing rash on the genital area is also not likely to be caused by herpes.

Your testing is well advanced in timing since the exposure.

I don't recall reading your posts on this, but did you have sex with a HSV positive person in the week before the sore appeared?

I did have sex with someone but I do t know if she had hsv  I felt some small bumps when I fingered her but she did t even notice them. It was like a rough patch inside her but she said it didn't hurt. Her status is unknown.  You think a single sore isn't suggestive of herpes? even on the penis? What else could it be. Or the leg pain I mention

I mean a single sore isn't suggestive of a primary herpes infection. As an adult, with no previous HSV infection, you'd be left in little doubt.

Leg pain is rare with herpes and will accompany a lesion.

most women are not perfectly smooth inside their vaginas, nothing unusual there.

Im just so mad at myself for not always wearing protection. I fingered her different times and can only remember the bumps one time. But they didn't hurt or bother her.   The leg pain was probably a week or two after the sore. And it was in my left leg. Quite painful.

I I just wonder why that doesn't sound like a primary infection whem most people don't even know they have it so it can't be a crazy drastic primary for most people. Just wondering what else could cause a single penis sore?

Because most people have HSV-1 such that their HSV-2 infection is very mild. That does not apply to you.

You penis sore could readily be a rubbing irritation, bug bite, fungus, fordyce spot etc.

Hi there. I suffer from bad anxiety and actually went to the same lab for a second test. My results (five months from incident) are as follows  - less than .90 for hsv2 and greater than five for hsv 1. Turns out I did an igm test the first time apparently as I did more research. I just received my results.  Should I assume this is a genital infection based on the symptoms I describe? I don't know if iv ever had a cold sore in my life. Not that I can recall.  I have had no sores or issues since the first one. What should I do now? I still have a groin rash but two doctors have told me it's a fungal issue

I will be unable to do any more igg tests as they are not availabl where I am.  So basically I was greater than 5 for 1 and less than .90 for hsv 2. Five months after last sex. What should I do? Put this behind me? do I have something to disclose or?

@honorejaxon that looks pretty clear. You have had an oral HSV-1 infection since childhood and you do not have HSV-2. Thus you do not have genital herpes. You can move on with confidence and your choice about what you disclose regarding your oral cold sores.

I could have genital hsv1 though right? I did have a sore and symptoms like I describe. and don't remember having any cold sores although both my parents have cold sores and I know not everyone shows symptoms. What would you do now in my shoes?   Say if I did have ghsv1, would I likely have tecieved it from oral and not vaginal sex?

Thanks for for your time. So if you were me you would put this behind you?

Wilson don't the symptoms I describe make it likely I have ghsv1? How would you disclose in my situation? Just say I get cold sores? Or might have it orally or genitally or what ?

No your situation, symptoms and testing indicate overwhelming an oral infection. About 80% of people with HSV-1 positive parents have oral HSV-1.

If you argument sake you had an initial genital HSV-1 infection, then in 90% of cases it is unambiguous. So let's get real about the chances here!

You simply disclose you have cold sore virus. It matters not whether it is oral (which is the most infectious) or genital. The response will often be, I get them too, meaning there are no issues.

Thank you for your time sir. One final thing. I have read about people taking six months or a year to turn positive on the igg. It was very difficult for me to even obtain the one igg. Involved a very long visit which I can't afford again really. At a little over 4.5 months can I be completely confident in my hsv 2 negative status?

Hi @Anxious 1234 Did you get diagnosis for this?

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Well thank you I appreciate it

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
