I haven't had confirmation that i do have herpes, in fact the opposite. I'm away from my home country for several months and have a new partner. I had testing done before I left and he told me the same. A week after we started having sex I developed flu symptoms and a whole bunch of painless non irritating bumps but also a painful lesion at the vaginal opening. Symptoms started on December 3rd. I saw a doctor who was certain it is herpes. I've been tested twice and my partner once. Both of our tests came back negative. I'm told it could be too soon to show in my system but he insists it would show on his tests. 3 days ago I started to feel I'll again.. And now getting irritation in my genital region. Is it possible to have another outbreak so soon? Any insight on possible other causes of this issue? I return to my home country on Monday and will be seeking medical attention immediately but I'm worried. Also during the first round urination was unbearable, has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you

There's enough here to want to eliminate herpes as a possible cause.

What testing was done regarding herpes. The only test that has credibility is an IgG blood antibody test type specific for HSV-1 and HSV-2. Did you and your partner have this test and what were the results?

Both of us had the blood antibody test for hsv 1 and 2 and both of our tests came back negative... My blood was tested twice and his only once. He has told me that his last partner was over a month ago and mine about the same however I was tested September 28th before I left for my travels and nothing came up then.

As time goes on and symptoms come and go and change I'm increasingly nervous. As I already accepted I have herpes since the doctor was so sure, I'm not scared for that diagnosis, I just want some sort of answer so I can treat whatever it is I have. I understand that not all people show symptoms and he hasn't had any... So it's still possible I'm just confused to why we are both negative... Obviously I'm skeptical thinking maybe he is lying to me... But now I'm worried there's something else damaging going on and I'm still not home for 5 days..

Thank you for your quick response I'm having an anxiety attack from hell the past few hours..

Yes understand and I'll be annoyingly persistent in pushing you toward an answer!

Can you confirm you both had IgG tests and not IgM?

Do you receive oral sex regularly?

He is probably negative but best to test 12 weeks after a previous partner.

Your test is not credible, you need the IgG test as well.

It may be possible he has an oral HSV-1 infection as 1 in 10 infections are missed. This may have transferred during oral sex.

Next step is IgG testing for you, now and 12 weeks after symptoms.

Were you tested for herpes before you left? Regular STD panels don't include it so you have to specifically ask for it.

Why didn't the doctor do a swab instead of blood tests? If you see sores again, try to get them swabbed! That will be the most accurate.

Also, how long did your outbreak last? Did you take medicine for it? Just wondering because I think generally initial outbreaks last ~10 days (I'm sure there's variation but that's how long mine lasted). Wondering if yours was like this and if the medicine seemed to help, or if it seemed different at all. I don't think it's impossible to have another outbreak so soon since you're more likely to have obs during the 1st 6 months-1 year, as you build antibodies. Plus, if you're traveling your immune system could be run down, etc.

My last test in September included herpes as I'm paranoid and ask for tests on everything.. I was thinking the reason we are seeing negatives is due to a short time period...

As as far as outbreak length the first was never actually finished before it started acting up again all within 2 weeks.

Im not on medication. They started me on some but the told me to stop... Oh goodness :(

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
