Booking a trip from Canada to Mexico! Help!

Great question.  I did a search and here is what I found:

Bringing Prescription Drugs to Mexico

You are allowed to bring prescription drugs into Mexico provided that you have the accompanying documentation which proves a medical need. If you or a member of your family are taking prescription drugs, be sure to take the prescription/doctor’s note with you, which includes the patient’s name and the name of the medication(s) to prove medical need of the drugs you are carrying in case your luggage gets inspected.

Here is a link to a list of consulates which you could also call to get clarification on this issue:

Have an awesome trip :)

I wouldn't worry about your friends seeing it but you might want to position yourself as the last one going through customs so they will be gone by the time if you are inspected.

I've been to Mexico twice, once from USA and once from a cruise. I had no trouble taking prescription meds. I was not even asked about them. If you are concerned about your family or friends finding out, you could always transfer the antivirals to another pill bottle, like one for heartburn, joint pain, or allergies.

I thought about that anyways but what if they check the bottle. 2 of my friends work in the hospital and they will know what's it's for. I don't want to not bring them incase I do get an OB since my BF will be there too. If I start getting asked questions I  just keep lying and get Myself in trouble! I would rather spend a night in jail or be refused flight than have them find out . What if I put them in my purse in my vitamin b container? I only need to bring 7 pills cut in half.

Your friends won't be close enough to you to read the pill bottles, most likely they will either be waived through customs or will be held behind a line far away that they won't be able to read the label.  I have done a LOT of international travel and trust me, they won't be close enough to read your labels.

Just be ready with an alternative explanation as to why you had pill bottles in your bag.

Don't worry, you will be fine.

I've had dozens of international flights over the last years with a huge bag full of various medications. All of them legal, but bought in many different countries. And not once has anyone bothered to even open that bag. The only thing border control ever concerned themselves with were my electric razor and toothbrush.

Also you can almost certainly buy cheaper generic Valtrex in Mexico over the counter..

Also lying and jail sound a lot worse than people knowing that you have HSV. 90% of people have one or the other type of HSV... and if you're a woman and had more than 10 lifetime sexual partners you have a 39% chance of having GHSV2.

If I have to explain to customs what acyclovir is my concern. My friends will ask questions. My BF has oral hsv1 and he doesn't take meds. If they make a scene cuz I have prescription drugs and I have to explain what they are for is my concern. I had a couple pills in my gym box crossing the border, they opened my purpose and my gum pack. The pills were the same color as my gum so nothing happened but the anxiety I felt . I'm thinking I can put them in a multi vitamin bottle.

They really aren't going to cause a fuss over 7 pills. If you put them in a pill bottle for something else, they aren't going to check it. If you were bringing in a large amount, they'd check for documentation but they aren't going to go into that much detail for such a little amount. If you're concerned about explaining it, just say its for cold sores if asked, and tuck some kind of documentation into wherever you keep your travel documents. But you really aren't going to need it.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
