Is this Prodrome or??

Hello,

The other night I had some delicious mushroom and shrimp spaghetti. Following this, I noticed a weird tingle on my lip and I tasted blood on my tongue. When I went to the mirror it looked like a long crack or scratch on the right side of my bottom lip. I ran to the pharmacist who barely glanced at it and told me it was a cold sore. She gave me abreva and Carmex and sent me on my way. Her diagnosis seemed quick and didn't sit right with me but I complied.

I applied the Abreva 5 times that night like the package said. When I woke up the next morning I made an appointment with my doctor for later in the afternoon, and then went to the mirror. The crack/fissure/ scratch was completely gone and flattened. When my doctor examined it later in the day, she looked at the spot 3 times and said she did not think it was a cold sore. No blistering formed. It just seemed like a crack in the lip that bled a little. She told me to stop using the abreva and to keep my lip moisturized.

When I got home I had a ham and cheese sandwich with salt pepper and vinegar. Immediately after eating that the same crack appeared but now, on the left side of my lip! I emailed my doctor and she still believed it was not a cold sore. I applied tons of abreva which made the lip tingle. When I woke up this morning, the swelling had gone down, but the crack/fissure is still there.

Both fissures resembled skinny scratches/cuts. When I put abreva there's a lot of tingling and it seems to help. I emailed my doc and she said sometimes the active ingredients in medications work well for more than one ailment. But she just does not think its a cold sore based on my symptoms and looking at it.

Doc says if she thought it was an outbreak, she'd give me a prescription. But she said until an actual outbreak occurs I just have to wait it out to see what it is. This is nerve wracking.

The only way to truly know would be having the area swabbed to see if you test positive. If this is not possible, have a blood test done. Prodrome can have many symptoms. Usually tingling, redness, itching, irritation, nerve pain etc... hsv is different for everyone. Hope this helps.

Much love,

K

...and all of this is why I took matters into my own hands, found a lab and got tested. I got tested at my doc and gyn and both test came back negative, but at least my docs offered testing. But I don't think they tested me for HSV because the lab test back positive.

Even if you have it, at least you are in the majority and not the minority as far as oral herpes goes. I really don't know why anyone makes a big deal about oral herpes......it makes very little impact on your life other than mild discomfort when outbreaks appear. Just relax and get on with life

Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

In this forum we will discuss does lume work Lume is paraben-free and uses several natural ingredients like Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, tapioca starch, and Maranta arundinacea root powder (also known as arrowroot powder) to control odor and sweat. One of the key Lume deodorant ingredients is mandelic acid, an AHA found in skin care products, which also has an antibacterial effect.

Ibuprofen medicine is a painkiller. Can you take ibuprofen on an empty stomach  Some people take medicine empty stomach which is not good for our health. Because painkiller kind of medicine is very strong and can harm your liver. Medicine makes many strong ingredients. like Lactose, corn starch, hypromellose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), and carnauba wax.
