So I got Ghsv1 from oral.  Had my first outbreak 3-4 days later and officially diagnosed on New years eve!!  I have just lost 145 lbs and was just discovering my sexy again.  Now I have already scared off a few people. And I feel damaged.  I am on meds and plan of taking them forever.  I never want to go through that outbreak stuff again.  I am also getting ready to have my 40th birthday.  Major depression coming on.  The guy who passed it on to me is very very sorry and I know he didn't do it on propose.  We were drunk and way hot and bothered for sure.  Just a bad mistake.   Reading a lot of everyones stories have been very helpful.  I am already thankful for all of your posts.  I welcome to talk to anyone.

This is a very typical story these days. I think you are aware that 70-90% of men carry oral HSV-1 and there's little doubt you have come across it before. Being drunk or the nature of sex has no real bearing, this is a function of chance.

I'd reconsider meds, you most probably will not need them. Half of women with genital HSV-1 will not experience another outbreak. For those that do, it will be a single patch every few years. That's not worth taking daily tablets to eliminate!

There is no reason this need impact your relationships or sex life. Most men have HSV-1 already, and hence you are no risk to them. You are the same or less risk to a male without HSV-1 than a woman with an oral HSV-1 infection.

Hey!

I'm sorry you are feeling down, but you will get through this. I was diagnosed with ghsv1 two months ago. It seems scary at first, but after the first outbreak, it gets better. I haven't had another outbreak since and I've heard a lot of stories about people with ghsv1 who only have one outbreak or a few. Just remember that even though you may feel damaged, you are definitely NOT damaged. I've come to  learn that this virus is so common. If you ever have any questions or need to talk, I'm here! :)

wilsolnaus Thanks for writing.  question.  Can't I still pass this on to a man genitally.  yes they might have the oral but I just don't want to pass it on if I can avoid it

I acquired GHSV1 and when I do decide to ever have sex again whenever that may be I will be on antivirals and I will use condoms with vivagel. Vivagel is a solution in the condoms that aid the stop of viruses being passed. I also will make my partner shower after because soap and water kills the virus. Just for added protection. I never want to pass this.

A male with an established oral HSV-1 infection is essentially immune from a genital infection. There is no documented case of this ever happening!

When you say 'genital infection' i assume you are referring to HSV1 genital infection and not HSV2?

      Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

      Hey @WilsoInAus miałam dzisiaj wizytę u dermatologa, gdyż dostałam zmian w pachwinie, w trakcie wakacji nad morzem. Udałam sie tam ze zmianami w postaci strupów. Powiedział ze nie można wykluczyć opryszczki mimo negatywnego wyniku Hsv igg i zalecił wymaz z pochwy na Hsv i inne choroby. Wytłumaczyłam mu że zmiany zamieniają się w strup, ale nie ma w nich płynu, więc zalecił badanie śluzu pochwy na hsv PCR, zastanawiam się czy ma to sens, i czy wirusa można wykryć na podstawie tego badania w wydzielin z szyjki macicy. Z góry dziekuje za pomoc
