HV-1 false positive due to corticosteriod use?

Recommended Posts

Blood test showed positive for HV-1, negative for HV-2.  Had been taking corticosteroids for at least

two months prior to test.  Does anyone know if steroid use can cause a false positive for HV-1.  Have

never had any symptoms at all.

No impact, you carry the HSV-1 virus and have probably done so since childhood.

Up to half of people with HSV-1 do not have symptoms, well many did, but they were before living memory having been infected under age 3.

Thanks for the feedback, Sanguine108 and WilsolnAus.  I just talked to my Dr. today and he pretty much

said the same things both of you said.  He also said that HV 1 is NOT a STD, which surprised me.

That is correct, HSV-1 is not an STD. The majority of infections with HSV-1 are not caused by sexual contact, hence by definition it is not an STD. Pretty much every known bacteria and virus passes through sexual contact (flu, fungus etc.)

You OK with this, there is no reason not to be. You had no idea you carried this virus and it will probably have the same zero impact.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
