Please help me! I've just been diagnosed with it!! (Genital) But I've been with my partner for 5 years and neither of us have ever had symptoms and 100% not cheated. It's so painful it only started yesterday, I've been given some tablets for 10 days.

Do I have to take them everyday forever now? We really wanted another baby but have to use condoms so that can't happen? Will we make it through this he's always hated condoms? I feel like I can't touch my baby I case something is contaminated- I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I feel like I'm alone and disgusting:( I'm only 24 and this is it now for life??

I'm so upset I just don't know what to do or where to go for support or vitamin advice or anything. I've just totally isolated myself.

im sorry I'm all over the place any advice will be gratefully received X

Do you have type I or type II? It's possible your partner may already be a carrier of type I (cold sores) and possibly passed the virus onto you via oral sex.

The medication you have been given is purely to reduce the severity of your outbreak (the first one is always the worse). You will most likely experience a very bad flu very soon.... It was hell for me! You can take suppressive medication daily to reduce viral shedding percentage rates if you wish. However, if your partner hates condoms tell him they don't offer complete protection anyway. If he loves and respects you, it shouldn't really matter.

First things first, DO NOT ISOLATE yourself. Confide in a friend or even your partner. Second. Don't google herpes! Any info you need is on this site. Look around.

HSV is quite fragile. Outside a body the virus dies. You won't contaminate surfaces of your house by touching them and you will not pass it on via a toilet seat. Again, not sure which type you have but keep in mind if it's type I, many are exposed to it as infants but never get breakouts.

How were you tested?  Did your results indicate which type you have?  From chatting with thousands of Herpsters over they year here on this website you probably have ghsv1 from your husband performing oral sex on you.  90% of all adults have hsv1 oral and most don't know because they have never had a cold sore and have never been tested.

Having ghsv1 is like winning the herpes lottery because hsv1 doesn't like to be genital.  You may never have another outbreak and since your husband already has it the chances of you giving it to him genital are almost zero.  So unless you have another outbreak you really don't have to use condoms.  I have ghsv2 for many years and have been with several women and almost all the sex I have had during this time has been unprotected (their choice) and I have never passed this along.  Also, unless you do have another outbreak you really don't have to take the meds every day.

Every day thousands of women who have genital herpes give birth naturally with no problems.  As long as your doctor knows it really won't be a problem.  The main risk to a baby is if the woman has her primary outbreak while pregnant and you have already had that.  Your doctor will most likely put you on antivirals the last 3rd of your pregnancy and they will examine you prior to delivery and if there is any hint of an outbreak they will perform a C section.

Don't worry about infecting others, so hug and kiss anyone you want.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply.

im guessing 2 as its genital and I think that's what that is? I went to an out of hours doctor today (with partner so he knows) as I've been quite unwell last few days - nausea, sickness, chills, temp etc then obviously a couple marks came up yesterday . I haven't been officially tested but I'll get straight on this tomorrow, unfortunately 2 people examined and both said the same, I'm on 5 a day which seems a lot :( how long does the first out break last?

would people recommend suppressive medication or does it not do your body much good?

he gets ulcers inside mouth but never a cold sore? We haven't had sex for 2 weeks (gutted as now it feels like it's going to be while!!) so I don't understand why I suddenly have it. I have very low self esteem and worry if I tell my friend she may think I'm dirty, diseased or change her opinion of me and I know this is silly as never would if it was the other way round. my partner has been very supportive but a part of me worries he is just saying what I want to hear, he's very upset at the thought he might have given it to me as I had a checkup when we started dating.

I feel rotten anyway and now I've found this out I feel even worse I've not eaten all day I just feel - probably a bit dramatic but like my life is over.

Thankyou so much I can talk to my partner but he doesn't have it and knows as much I do so feel he doesn't understand .

I went swimming Tuesday and started feeling unwell weds eve and became tender sat morn. I know you said the virus dies outside the body but is there any chance I could've got it in water? Might be a totally stupid suggestion

No, it is not possible to get herpes from being in the water.

Get tested, Summer55. I figured you'd been tested and returned a positive result. Being female, your symptoms could be a range of things. If lesions are currently present, have a swab/culture test done. These are the most accurate tests to detect HSV. The blood test for HSV picks up the antibodies in your blood, not the virus itself. It can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks for your body to create enough antibodies to be detected via a blood test. In my case, my swab was positive but blood test was negative. My Dr informed me I was recently infected as antibodies weren't present in my blood yet.

Hope that helps.

Just because you might have genital herpes doesn't mean it is automatically hsv2.  Most new cases of genital herpes is hsv1 from people receiving oral sex and 90% of all adults have it oral.  Most people who get an outbreak do so 2 - 21 days after they were infected, so it isn't or of the ordinary for you to have one after 2 weeks.

Did they not swab test you?  Visual diagnosis is the least accurate way to diagnose someone.  I wish I had a $ for every person I met on this website who was POSITIVE they had genital herpes and later found out they did not.  If they did not swab you, please go back and get one and make sure it is type specific.  If not, you may have to wait 4 months to take a blood test to find out if you have it and what type you have.  Blood tests look for antibodies in your blood that your immune system creates to fight the virus and it can take up to 4 months for your body to create them.

The only reason to take suppressive meds is if you have frequent/bad outbreaks or you are being intimate with someone who does not have it.  IF you do have it and it is hsv1 you probably will never have another outbreak.  Also, since your partner already has it, there is no reason to take meds daily.

How long your outbreak lasts depends on your immune system and which type you have.  Outbreaks from hsv1 typically don't last as long as outbreaks from hsv2, but again it depends on your immune system.  Outbreaks can last from a few days to a few months.

Good luck!

They didn't swab, they just told me to go to a GUM clinic asap to have a proper test but both a nurse and doctor said it's definitely herpes...I can't believe they could wrongly diagnose someone it's not right.

I can get my partner to have a blood test too to see if he has the antibodies, if he doesn't then I must be the carrier but hope for hs1 . All the gum clinics are closed today but I'll ring first thing tomorrow.

My immune system is pants so not promising but we shall see.

Thankyou so much for all your help it does feel better talking about it and knowing more about the 2 is slightly reasuring, I still have a lot to learn but not so in the dark now :)

Even if you are a Herpster your life isn't over.  I have been on this website daily for over 6 years and have chatted with thousands of Herpsters over the years and many have told me that getting genital herpes changed their lives for he better.  Many people reevaluate their lives and start making better decisions about their life.  They start working  out, and start eating more healthy.

Herpes is just one of hundreds of viruses that you can get.  There isn't a human alive that doesn't have a virus inside their bodies.  Be thankful that your partner didn't give you the flu.  That virus kills 30,000 people a year so next to that, this is nothing.

Do you have any pets?  Human's aren't the only animals that can get a virus called herpes.  It isn't the exact same kind as ours and they can't get it from us but most vertebrate animals can get a virus called herpes.  Cats, dogs, horses and even penguins can get herpes.  I swear there is a beluga whale here at the Georgia Aquarium that gets cold sores :)

You will be ok, even if you are a Herpster!

Summer

I strongly believe your herpes is type 1.

Your case are almost same as my.

What JB said we're right.

You got to get a swab test before the OB heal.

My wife asked the nurse if her herpes is type 2

She said "yes there is no need to test because your herpes is confirm type 2."

Result came out its type 1.

Google will make you worried more.So just come here if you having question.

Thankyou for your replies, I had the tests done monday and everything has come back clear bar the herpes one - still waiting! Apparently could take another week yet, I'm just hoping it's type 1 not 2 (I think)

They wouldn't do a blood test on my partner as apparently it's inconclusive and not accurate as there are so many herpes viruses!? So I don't know if he has it or not and I get the feeling he's abit apprehensive about our future sex life :(

As we've had unprotected sex for 5+ years I think he'll have it... surely? He may have given it to me but as he's never had an outbreak and I have now he's worried.

How were your partners the first few times after ob?

Inaccurate? Too many types? I don't understand. Blood tests actively detect antibodies for both type 1 and 2. As for a partner, I was separated when I got infected.... Can't help you there, sorry.

Hey @Zrozpaczona9 that looks like folliculitis to me, that’s independent of the question of herpes. The doctor is wrong in the sense that a negative IgG test is beyond reasonable doubt that you do not have herpes. It is a small percentage of people for which a false negative occurs. The doctor is right to take a swab to increase your confidence that there’s no herpes present. I’m sure you’ll have your result soon.

In this forum we will discuss does lume work Lume is paraben-free and uses several natural ingredients like Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, tapioca starch, and Maranta arundinacea root powder (also known as arrowroot powder) to control odor and sweat. One of the key Lume deodorant ingredients is mandelic acid, an AHA found in skin care products, which also has an antibacterial effect.

Ibuprofen medicine is a painkiller. Can you take ibuprofen on an empty stomach  Some people take medicine empty stomach which is not good for our health. Because painkiller kind of medicine is very strong and can harm your liver. Medicine makes many strong ingredients. like Lactose, corn starch, hypromellose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide (E171), and carnauba wax.
