How likely is it for outbreaks to occur of the same strain at the same time

How common is it for herpes from the same strain to occur at the same time (for example oral and genital HSV2 or oral and genital HSV1)? or do they follow each other in short time?
If one had a strain in both places would the primary outbreak be more likely to occur at its place of preference (for example having an oral HSV1 outbreak before a genital HSV1 outbreak or having a genital HSV2 outbreak before an oral HSV2 outbreak)? Is one more likely to have an outbreak down there first more than in the mouth with HSV2 if they have it in both places? Thank you for any responses and your time :)

I can't untangle what you're asking.

What are your issues? Has the partner you kissed actually been confirmed with oral HSV-2 through swab and blood?

What sexual activity took place?

What tests have you had? Swabs and blood?

Thanks for the response :) I was swabbed positive for Oral HSV2 after a big blister came up on the right side of my lower lip. It seems when I kissed the girl I was with she was shedding from her mouth because she would later test positive for Oral HSV2 as well. She had a smaller blister that came in way later. I got my blister 10 days after kissing her. The doctor said he thinks little cuts or a canker sore gave way for the virus to come into my lip and inside my bloodstream. Anyways after that she gave me a blowjob. However no signs at all have come up down there of any outbreak and the only outbreak that came up was on my lip 10 days after being with her which lasted 4 days with Abreva. I had initially thought it was a pimple but on the final days the blister was around I had it swabbed and it came back positive for HSV2. It has now been 21 days after my initial outbreak on my mouth and no sign down there. I would just like to know if I was infected down there too if there was anyway of knowing because I have heard if one was infected in both places with HSV2 that the outbreak would usually come up on the boxer are first since it was its preferred region.

Yes you would most probably have got an outbreak down there at the same time.

You must seek an IgG blood test immediately to ascertain the potential that you've had this a long time.

The swab, how long did it take to get the result? Did you see the paperwork that had the immunofluoresence secondary test performed?

Why is it necessary to know if I have had it a long time or not? I am most certain she gave it to me. The swab culture was done and the doctor came back showing me that the swab had tested abnormal for Herpes 2. Would I have gotten an outbreak at the same time because it is the same strain in both places or why? Thank you :)

You would have got an outbreak because your nerve endings are recently infected with herpes of either type.

No you cannot be certain that she is the source, especially if her blister appeared after yours. It is possible you have had this for years. A good proportion of people with oral HSV-2 were born with it.

This is why a blood test will help understand this.

Everything is also just so coincidental, I feel at least one of the HSV-2 diagnoses is wrong. One or both of you must have an oral HSV-1 infection.

Did the swab test abnormal for HSV or explicitly HSV-2, it takes 4 days plus to type a culture, just 2 days to determine the presence of HSV.

She got that blood test you speak of and she said her antibodies were well established like her doctor told her. Her doctor told her it must have taken months for her to establish her antibodies to fight HSV2. I was specifically tested positive for HSV2 from the blister on my lip. I have heard that sometimes outbreaks dont happen for months or years. I just wondered if maybe I had HSV2 down there too but it would have been weird if I did have it for me to have an outbreak on my lip only and not on its area of preference in the boxer area. That is what I have been worried about.

Without an outbreak, an infection would be very unikely.

There is something not quite consistent in this flow of events. Get the blood test!

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
