Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I have been trying to research a diet that would help prevent future outbreaks but all the info is conflicting. (Like Citrus is really bad, no eat more citrus!) Anyone have a creditable source. Thanks!

No oatmeal, chocolate, nuts, gelatin, alcohol, minimize sugar intake, research "foods high in lysine" you are going to want to eat food high in lysine and low in arginine.

I have never heard of low citrus for H.

From my understanding AND personal experience, foods that are high in arginine can be triggers for H OB and foods high in lysine are good to keep H more dormant.  Having said this, lots of healthy foods have some arginine in it and you cannot totally eliminate it nor would you want to.  Low sugar is also important as sugar lowers immune functioning.  Intermittent fasting and ketogenic are also talked about here with a lot of science to back this.

You will need to experiment with what works for you.  For me, personally, I absolutely cannot have any nuts, seeds or chocolate or peas.  What brought my dormant H out of remission was going on a high raw food diet which included way, way too many nuts and seeds.  I regret not knowing about arginine/lysine when I was first exposed as I would not have made some of the choices that I think caused me to get off balance and bring the H out of being dormant.

Personally, I have been taking a combination approach--doing immune building and anti-inflammation diet coupled with adjustments for H.

Everyone is different and its trial and error.  They say arginine high foods should be avoided but again individual.  I eat whatever i like but im fit and dont eat junk.  This has been my suppressive therapy

I think it is good to have information and for the information about lysine/ arginine to be communicated and then each individual can make decisions for themselves, through trial and error.  I regret that I was not informed early on about lysine/ arginine as I cannot help but wonder if my choices triggered my dormant H becoming more active.

I am very fit and very slim, I exercise regularly and have a very active lifestyle.

When I first contracted 35yrs ago I had never heard of HSV. They had just started talking about AIDS! There were no resources for information to guide me. Doctors had nothing to offer other than take aspirin if it gets bad.

Early in my new life, I discovered the connection regarding food. I too was/am a healthy active, food conscious individual. I had a binge fest one night on peanuts in the shell. The next morning I woke up in Hell! I had no idea what and why other than I could relate directly to what I ate. It took many, many years before I found a list of Arginine to Lysine ratio to explain it.

I still do not eat peanuts, even with Lysine supplements. Now I know about the mold and the lectin so I just avoid.  With other foods on the list I automatically supplement with Lysine to balance. Yes we can still eat foods with Arginine but if the Arginine ratio is higher than the Lysine, supplement to level it out to avoid feeding the virus.

This is one good thing that comes from HSV. I know what is in the food I consume so it does not consume me!!!

Never heard of the no citrus or oatmeal rule. I did hear to avoid at sugar foods, alcohol and caffeine.  I cannot avoid caffeine, because I'm addicted to coffee ;) but I do not drink sodas.  I found out I was gluten intolerant almost a year ago and since I got off gluten my overall health has immensely improved. I'm not sure if it has also helped with minimizing my outbreaks too.

Hi @WhatDidIDo2023, hopefully all is well with you and your significant other and are still together.   Did she develop any other symptoms after you mentioned her getting itchiness? Was it determined what you had was contagious? Most likely developed a fungal disease and caused her a yeast or uti

Hi @Luna 01 I really feel it is worthwhile obtaining a proper Herpeselect test given the outcomes of the home panel test. Regardless, your current symptoms are almost certainly not related to herpes. Hopefully, your doctor can assist in resolving these.
